What do you like better B18 or D16????
I was reading this post about some guy back on 2005 talking about the difference between the B18's and D16's engines, i got a D16Z6 swap in my 92 civic Dx and for me works great i put a header, intake manifold, mugen ecu... faster than many stock B18"s... but i want to hear back from you guys, What's ur opinion B18 or D16???
Depends on which B18 you talking about. I rather have a B18C1 over my D16z6 any day. Ive had both. But im keeping my D this time so i can learn how to build. Im gonna put a camshaft and retainers...and maybe supercharge it after. Just maybe.
who u talking too? I hate all THIS BULL about D's vs B's.
Anyone knows that one can waste less money and turbo a D and have way more power than a stock gsr with bolt ons. A turbo'd D would eat GSr's. Now if you put a turbo on the Gsr or any other B than we lost i guess.
Just diffirent points of view. Like ive said ...ive had both. And i enjoy the D. I know it lacks torque but thats where a Turbo or SC comes in hand.

for the low budget driver, a turbo D would walk a gsr less LESS money
but if you wanna spend +5k on a gsr and turboing it, theres no reason you'd be thinking about Ds
if you go a gsr , prepare to spend **** loads amount of money to protect it. once word gets out that you got a gsr (turbod at that), your car will get broken into almost weekly (if you live in a populated area)

I dunno where else you can get a set of pistons that bring ur compression down to ridiculous lows and are mad cheap and werent ever originally made for a honda (yes im talking about vitaras). If I didnt have a b series stock and i had a d series in my car i would just keep the d and build and boost.

I know what you mean about the whole B vs D thing. I've had both, and both are good engines, and most people will defend the series they have under their hood, ha ha
I've had 49 cars now, tried pretty much everything! I will say this, for the day and age we are currently at, a B series engine, any model, even a B18A/B is soooooo cheap, and makes a good deal of power stock, as well as having the ability to have power adders installed, it's pretty hard to be it dollar for dollar.
Also, keep in mind that a stock b series, is stronger physically, and the head will flow 30% more air over a sohc design. Oh yeah, they also have a feature i adore right out of the box over a sohc....torque!!

I like the D-series because there are not many out there still trying to tap into their power and everyones doin the B-series nowadays. I'm keepin my eg old school and tryin to tap out the ol' z6 model. Where did you get that mugen ecu you were talkin about, I'd love to check it cause I'm in the market for one.
Of course you can compare the flow or the power of a Dual Over Head Cam to a Single Over Head Cam. Hence the head is bigger and better. Just im in cali and the pigs have just got out of hand. And so have the new laws. So its a pain in the *** to be driving a B now. Unless illegally. And i drive for work on my Ej1 every day all day. Im a courier so i cant afford pig BS or tickets to lose my license. I get paid well and dont want to lose my job...LoL
I think a nice well built ls maybe throw a vtec head it would be a nice car.. But it all comes down how much money you got... To get anypower out of a d seems like u have to go turbo...
(Takes deep breath)
well as most of you know the DOHC motor has more HP than the SOHC coming off the factory line. So its obvious which motor is most often chosen. But some of us enthusiests prefer to build a motor as opposed to get one all beefed up.
I too have had lots of honda's both SOHC and DOHC motors. I did have fun wih my built B18C1 but worried alot about it. The cost of repairs and parts are ridiculious. When i ran SOHC motor i pounded the life out of them. They truly are easy builders. And cheaper.
I am currently running a D16Y5 (vtec-e), with GSR injectors and a chipped P72.
For those of you whi dont know these vtec-e motor are supposed to be fuel efficient. Butto be honest it lacks power big time.(stock that is) however out of all the vtec motors ive driven, i never heard or felt vtec hit as hard as these motors. Ill try to get a youtube video up.
Before i did the injecto/ecu swap it was throwing the too lean code. Thats why i swapped the injectors. To get more fuel. And it worked. But i gained way more torque and power off the line. Vtec used to be real loud but no action. All noise. Then after the injector/ecu swap can hear and feel vtec engage.

what a silly thread.. seriously your gonna ask whats better? think about it.. now if your more specific about the question like whats better a JDM b18c type R or a Stock d16y8 boosted to 6lbs, then that would be a better question. If D's were good to begin with then this whole honda craze of swapping motors wouldnt have happened all together... also if you wanna talk about whats a cheaper build that makes more power a B vs D series then thats also a good question. And whats more reliable from the 2 then thats another good question.

i have a D16Y8 and i do agree it is lacking in power, compared to a B-series motor, but its all about what you want to do. i'd love to find a Z6 motor and build it to high heaven. yet again i would like to have a nice turbo'd GSR. not saying either is better just different views on the subject.
not a lot of people build Ds because of the low output and SOHC design. but they are plentiful in most junkyards, parts for them are easy to find and much cheaper than B-series parts, and if you completely destroy a motor you can part most of it out and buy a new stock one.
just my .02.
