Default 99-00 coupe, best EK out there?

Thought i'd start this thread to bring attention to some facts i've noticed over the years about civic's, and EK models in particular.

I read some many threads about how people take 96-97 model cars, and spend all kinds of time/money doing the 99-00 front end swap, and the climate control swap overs, the newer red/white tail light swap....cool, but why go all the trouble when you could just buy the newer car in the first place.

The other thing i've noticed is that "all" 96-00 coupes are much less prone to rust. My last EK was a 96 hatch, which i liked very much, but ended up selling it off once it started rusting in the rear quarters like most other hatches made before the 2001 model year.

I'm not hating on other civic's out there, as i've now owned 14 different models/years. The 99/00 seems to be best of the generation......opinions??

i like em both... I actually like the oem foglight placement in the 96-98s a lot better. I have a 99 and i wouldnt trade it for anything unless it was k swapped and baller

I agree that the 96+ civics are way less rust prone on the body. Not just because they're newer either. Odds are that around here, every 95 civic will be rusted...and very few 96es are rusted. 1 year isn't really that big of a diff.

The EM1 is probably one of the slowest Si's ever made since 88, though. It felt like my 90 Si was much quicker than my EM1. My 93 with a D16Z6 swap also felt much quicker.

I think it all stems from the fact that B16As suck ***.

i dont really agree that 99-00 is best but 96-00 yes,
i really dont understand why people go through the troublle of the 99-00 front end swap, other then they think they are being different... i will admit i like the 99-00 climate control a little more, but not enought to go through the trouble of swaping everything out... i like the 99-00 tails better, dont really care for the amber too much.

either way 96-00 is the best years ever made.

I like the 96-00 model, but I personally like the 96-98 model civics before the revision. Is the 99-00 bumpers supposed to be more aerodynamic? Either way, I absolutely love the square foglights for the 96-98 front end.

ive noticed in my region . ( New england) that the 96-98 hatches in particular rust more than the 99-00 hatches... theres a very significant different in the amount of rust i see between the two on the quarter panels.

btw 99-00 front bumper = awesome

I also went from 2 97's to my 99 hatch because the climate controls and the fact that its newer. I didnt even know the front end was different at the time

I hate it when people call their coupes EK's, or their sedans EK's. When its proud to be an EJ :D

You should read NOFX's Ultimate Chassis Guide. It will tell you all about what cars are what.

All 96-00 Civics in the United States are EJ or EM1 for Si model!

they are all ejs, there is ej6,7,8 and em1.

ek is jdm, ek4, ek9 etc.
people just call 96-00 eks, simply becuase its easy and everyone person knows what a ek is, not all know ej6.7.8.

crxtuner0- your wrong, now stop, his hatch is a ej6.

EM = 99-00 Si(best)
EJ = coupe/sedan/hatch(although you will hear the hatch referred to as a ek)

So the em1 doesn't have that high of horsepower, nor does it have any torque at all lol... There's something about em1s that make them so great... They're way better than a ep3... handling is worse, 0-60 is worse, weighs more, looks are worse... Em1 all day.

The 96 was a hatch (the red one) D series, can't stand lack of torque, out it went, in was a 2000 model B20Z with Edelbrock header and Toda flywheel, car went like hell!

The newer car is a 2000 EM1. I don't care for the B16A, so i just finished off an extra B18C5 i had in storage, it's just waiting to be installed.

As for the whole chassis code them many people seem to be worried about, i am well aware of the differences. As a slang, i use "EK" to stand for all 96-00 model civic's even though they are, it's just an easy way to refer to a generation of civic. (it's just like people call 88-91 cars EF's, when in fact, there are many different acutal code to refer to the models during those years)
