Default alternator not charging, there is not battery light?

yesterday my car died then i tried to turn it on but the battery was drained
so i changed it and used my volt meter to see whats wrong...
the car off the volt meter was reading 11.96, then turn it on still reading 11.80,
if i rev it the voltage drops to 11.60 and keeps going down so its my alternator but im confused because my battery light is not ON.

always when the alternator fail the battery light turns on....right?
is there any fuse that i need to check?

all the fuses on the engine bay are fine, belt is good, connections to the alternator are fine i didn't mess with the car or anything, it was running great...

any input thanks...

im pretty sure the alternator is gone but before i take it out to autozone and test it
hope is something else...

thanks

ed

I heard its not a good thing to disconnect the battery while running. I don't know if that is true. On older cars without the computers it was alright. Since it died when you disconnected the battery, it point toward your alternator. You can have it tested at Autozone and the such. Many years ago, Sears used to do free bat/alt check in the car.

Check #15 under the dash first. I had this problem. Change it whether it looks good or not.
