Looking for feedback/suggestions on first Civic purchase.
Hey all,
Just signed up for this forum today. Looking at purchasing a Civic here shortly and am checking out a '99 Civic HX and a '99 Civic Si tomorrow. A little bit about my needs first...I'm looking for something practical, reliable and cheap. I currently drive a '98 Jeep Cherokee and am wanting something a bit more economical. My brother-in-law is willing to buy my Jeep for $3600, so I'm looking for a Civic in the $3600-4600 range. I'm not concerned about modding/ricing this Civic and would only buy a stock car.
The car I'm looking at tomorrow is a '99 Civic HX 2 door, black, factory HX rims, manual with 100k miles. The dealer is asking $4800 and it looks clean from the pics I've seen online. I haven't tracked Civic prices historically, so I don't know if this is an average asking price or not. I'm hoping I can get them down to $4200-4300 (I'm paying in cash as well).
The second car I'm checking out is a '99 Civic Si (electric blue, which I'm a sucker for). The car has 115k miles and the dealership is asking $5977. This is a bit out of my price range, but may go $4600 on this car.
What I'm looking for is feedback on both of these cars, the HX's/Si's in general and possibly any problem areas I need to keep an eye out for when I go check these cars out.
I've done some general searching online for information, and feel good about the feedback I've seen. Just looking for that little extra bit of feedback before I pull the trigger.
Any feedback/info would be appreciated!

if you're just buying it to commute get the hx. better gas mileage and way less likely to get stolen/broken into. also, as soon as you start driving the si you're going to want to mod it...it just happens! the hx will be sky high, stock rims, and no power at all....that's what you need in a commuter car. and i'd offer the lot $3800.00 cash at most. good luck.
I have to tell u to go with the HX as well and being a 99 with over 100k I would make an offer of no more than $2000. That's just me tho cause I run into 92-00 civic's all day long for $2500 or less. A friend of mine had a 98 HX and use to get estimated 38-40mpg on the highway.
