Sedan broke down with a cloud of smoke...
Quick story as to how it went down.
Driving on a two lane freeway and I'm in the passing lane going about 75mph. The car starts losing power and comes down to about 70 and is able to maintain that, but it won't go any faster. The oil light comes on and I try pushing the pedal a bit more but I just lose more power. So I decide to let the people in the right lane pass me and let go of the gas pedal which is where everything went wrong. As soon as I completely released the gas pedal the car jerked and stalled and I couldn't get it to turn back on. A ton of smoke was kicked out from under the car and now the battery light is on. I pull over to the shoulder and it's pretty apparant that the battery is pretty drained. Take a look under the car and theres a trail of oil and a nice little puddle forming.
Got it towed back to Davis and took a look at it this morning and it looks like something spilled out of the battery (acid?) and the car won't turn over (assuming due to the battery).
So at this point I'm guessing the gasket for the oil pan blew, but I don't know why that would affect the battery. Any thoughts would be great. Car is an 88 sedan with stock motor, no mods at all, though the oil pan was replaced a few months ago, never had a problem since it was replaced though.
Edit: Swapped batteries and confirmed that my battery is shot.

Oil light on and you push the gas pedal harder??? Hope it was just bad timing... Oil it up and try starting it?
Figured if it wasn't too bad I might make it to the next exit, but in retrospect, yeah, terrible idea :p
Finally got my hands on a jack and theres a hole in the oil pan like it blew under pressure.

if there's a hole in the oil pan, you might've blown a rod through the bottom of the oil pan. or you hit a rock in the road, and thats how you got your hole.
good luck with the repairs.

^x2, it sounds like your lose of power was because you were running on 3 cylinders
how big is the hole in the oil pan? might of shot a rod cap out of it

More than likely you threw a rod. Sounds exactly like what happened to my '91 EX sedan when I threw my rod, hole the size of my fist in the block afterwards.
Time to MPFI and swap that bad boy.
