I just found this out. I am glad to see another spot for racing.
Yeah some of the rules they have suck, but hey its almost better than nothing.
This is great for people who live close to Willow Springs.

Wow what a turnoff! No slicks, no nitrous, no trailered cars and you only race 1000'. Only in Cali, next there will be "no petroleum engines allowed."
at new england dragway no slicks are allowed on wednesdays. looks like in cali they're trying to set up street racing at the track, so anything is better than doing it illegally. that and they're having it at a road course...
Its cool that theyre trying. But if any of you out there know, Willow Springs isnt really your go to the track on a weekday type place. Its at least 1hr to the major populated areas. and 2 hours+ to the rest.(not counting palmdale guys lol, u guys dont count.
)
If they were to actually already build a full 1/4 mile track with lights and with time slips, etc. Alot of people will be all over that. I know I would drive that far on a weeknight. At this point, we even consider testing at Las vegas on a friday night which is a good 4-5 hrs away. Thats how desperate some of us are.

So why were there so many tracks shutting down in Cali if there are plenty of racers to support them? Did they sell out to developers or something? Looking around on this site is seems the west coast "scene" is nothing but show cars, maybe a result of no place to race?
Anyone find it ironic that they don't allow trailed cars, but it's sponsored by Carson Trailer. LOL
At least it gives an option to "race".

Unless they have a TNT or a street wars, they don't allow slicks on friday night anymore....

avg. person is going to need to drive several hours to reach a track.
in norcal alone there are only 2 tracks, 1 of which is mainly only bracket racing so getting dialed in isnt exactly the best.
Why are they shutting down tracks? Noise regulations, house development, emissions crap...
AND FWIW, to the north cali guys, afaik, sac raceway is closing down in a few years due to housing development...so we are stuck w/ infineon, inwhich we all know is packed when they hold TNT.
east > west.
thats just insane, a state as big as california (ironically the birthplace of organized drag racing) cant get a couple areas to race at?? also with so many race oriented companies based out there you would think it would be a no brainer having that helping thier struggling economy.
wake up california!!!

Seems like a good deal to me. 10 bucks to run and have a good time. Obviously not ment for full on racecars, but still something to do that is cheap!

I would like to think if Willow Springs gets enough interest and people start packing up the place on their Wed Night drags, they might invest into building a proper 1/4 mile track with timing lights and everything.
If you want to read how all this came about and how LACR folks helped on this read up on this link http://www.savelacr.org/main.htm

That is exactly what I was thinking! Well when cali falls off into the ocean all those parts companies and shops are probably gonna move your way. The import support up there is HUGE! LOL, next it will be horse racing b/c of the methane emissions from the horses. In a logical sense of things cali is just seems like a total wack job.
Can't run slicks at Bristol unless you do a test n tune on the weekend. DOT only during the week.
Not sure what WS reason is, but Bristol thinks that idiots will show up with slicks who don't know how to drive with them and break on the track causing delays (most week nights you're lucky to get 5 runs in if you're there for hours).

they are doing this to see if its worth the owner of willowsprings to invest money in a 1/8 or 1/4 mile drag strip in the antelope valley.
so far its been a great turn out its nothing serious just people having some kind of fun out here in the desert. so far every wednesday has brought around 100+ people. the turn out would be better if it was on a weekend.

The tracks are shutting down because a lot of Cali folks just talk about racing online. They rather go to the streetraces, and run from the cops all night. There have been several times you go to the tracks and there arent enough cars to fill classes. Yet there are thousands of people crying we don't have any races or tracks. Even spectators cry but they won't show up to watch and support the sport. Baron dragstrip said ok we will throw a few import events out there. Guess what maybe 8 cars showed up. Hell 5 of them were our friends and 3 from LA area. You can't keep tracks open like that so Cali folks shouldn't complain they should get to the track and show support. Even if its spectating its helping keep the track open. BARON DRAGSTRIP WELCOMES ALL RACERS IMPORT ALSO. Its a drive for the LA folks but its not shitty like Irwindale and you don't need guns, grenades, and 50 killers to mingle.

Looks like you're able to get a lot of runs in and a wide variety of cars show up:

Cali has cars sitting around in garages rotting away. We have no tracks. No events. Nothing to chase... Why put your car together for one or 2 events..?
CALI Just needs ONE track that will run a local POINT SERCIES and it will all come back within 6 months of operations.
There is support.. just no boss running the show.

After the next two events we have in November, I will throw back on my street tires and bolt my exhaust back on and I will head up there.
well we need to stop talking and talking and just head over ... we just complaint and what we do nothing .... so people get your cars ready and go.... i don't like to say this but we need to move from 135th and main...
