Default 98 Civic Auto Tran. Help!!!

Ok the car 98 civic hatch dx
original auto tranny that comes with the d16y7
It has 104,000 miles

The problem is that the auto tran is not going into gear. It will move for a little and then it will start to slipping and not go into gear and act like it is in neutral. The auto shifter will move into the positions where you select the gears. It goes into park, and it holds the car still. When I go to drive or anyother motion gear it wont move.

What could it be the torque converter, cable brackets being loose, etc???

Fluid is full and new, clean pinkish color. No it has not been filled or clean recently but it has been fine for a while now. Changed fluid on 7/4/09.

What could this be??? I dont want any smart comments please, like change it to a stick. I dont have the budget to do that right now.

Thanks.
