Default 91 Accord LX Heat Problem (by non newb)

I realize that there are many inquiries about heating issues here and i have read through many of them, i assure you guys that i searched and did not find a similar posting. I bought this 91 accord and it blew air but with no heat. Now im no stranger to heat issues so i know the blower motor works because it blows air, tried backflushing the heater core but it was too clogged and leaking so i removed the dash and replaced it. (and yes, i did check the port that lets water pass through to the heater core and it works.

Anyway, so now i have heat, it was a simple problem with a pain in the *** solution. But now, my problem is that i cannot change the heat distribution. What i mean is, I have hot air blowing to my face, but i cant change the setting to defrost, or to shoot down to the feet or face and feet. Its like the switches to the heater dont work. I can change the dial from hot to cold, and i can change the dial for the blower motor from high to low, but i cant change anything else. I went to a junk yard and got 2 others of the same unit and they all do the same thing, and i checked the proper fuses via a fuse diagram and still nothing. Am i missing something? Has anyone ran into this problem and have a solution? Or is there some way of manually pulling a switch or something to get it at least stuck on defrost? Winter is coming and id rather have a defrosted window than a toasty driver who has to scrape his inside of the windshield. Also, when i pulled the dash out there was a very short plug wire, blue in color, that i couldnt find where it plugs into i've spent countless hours... I dont know if it is related but i have a feeling it is. I tried finding wiring diagrams for it but i couldnt. Its on the passenger side under the dash a few inches from the door. Any help is appreciated. And thanks.

PS

Ill see if i can get a camera and take a picture of the switches that dont work and the cable connector that is loose to better help understanding to those who want to help but dont fully understand me

check the control head for the HVAC system and make sure that the various motors are getting power for the direction doors. If they are test them for fuctionality.
