Icon2 PLEASE HELP.. B18C1 head dowel pin question..

Can you tell me where this small bronze dowel pin goes? Does it go under the head or on top of the head?

that looks like the alignment dowel that goes in the block on the back side.

under the head.... in one of the corners.... you stick it in the block to line up the head properly

Thanks sooo much! I had a thread in the Integra forum that no one has replied to all morning! Do you think it's ok to run it without the alignment pin? I have all the head bolts torqued down already..

take it apart and redo it. you dont want something stupid to happen because you were too lazy to redo a 20 minute job. if you didnt need it, they would have it.

it aligns the head exactly where it should be on the block.. so yes it is required.

That doesn't look like the dowel that aligns the head, that looks like the oil orifice that goes in the top of the head between #2,3 cylinder... That's what it looks like to me by the pic that was taken..

I mean because the head bolts lined up it must be on there correctly.. I'm hesitant to remove the head because I've already torqued this one down. Maybe you can correct me.. But isn't it bad to re-use one that's already been torqued down? Will the copper spray stay "tacky?"

@v.i.gsr - Oil orifice pin is in already.. : /

your headgasket is gonna blow without that dowel....

and yes you will need new headstuds.... unless they are ARP and they have only been torqued once. and you will also need another new headgasket lol...

live and learn.. thats what you get for putting everything together before knowing what your doing ;-)

Well if I'll have to replace the hg anyway, I'll run it without the pin until it blows and fix it properly then..

You only learn by doing..

Haha.. Well.. I feel that if that dowel pin is in fact ONLY used for aligning.. The head bolts should have the head aligned with the block.. And the gasket should be aligned with the silver dowel pins and head bolts.. I've spent too much money on tools and supplies already.. : /

I hope it holds..

Ok, a quick "b18c1 alignment dowel" google search only really reveals the 2 silverish larger dowels that I do have installed already.. Maybe this smaller bronze one goes somewhere else?
