how long have you gone without changing oil?
the longest i went was 6000 miles on the G1 ...thats when the old D16a1 was on its last legs , burning oil like a biatch, it wasnt worth changing it ...it burnt it away to quick
I haven't changed oil in probably 15k, with about 8 or 9 track days/autox's in that span....
I only add
[e]-I have changed the filter a few times though

My friend was looking at a truck, the guy claimed that he had not changed the oil in 100,000 miles, he just added oil when necessary. But it was ok because he used Mobile1.
I also knew a guy that had an Integra that had not changed his oil in 30,000 miles, felt it was ok because he used Mobile1 and he did not burn any oil. The worst part was his mechanic agreed with him.

3300, so i guess that would be 300 over. I hope that isn't much.
Newer Mercedes have an oil contamination sensor and drive their (US) owners mad by not recommending an oil change until 20k+ miles.
If you use synthetic, changing every 10-15k miles is enough. (Unless you are a track *****.)
I change mine around 4000 miles on the R. When I had my CRX I would change it at 5000 miles. That car had 223,000 miles on it and was still running strong when I wrecked it.
i have gone without a change for like 10k miles.
it was black as ****.
now days, i change it about every 5000 miles or so. mobile 1 synthetic.
my brother knows someone in mobile (research and development team), he says that you really dont need to change it every 3000 miles or so. just change it around 5000 or 6000 miles because cars these days are much more efficient.
he has a new corvette and changes his oil every 7000 miles or so.
plus he recycles those oil and puts it in his motocycle.
the reason why most mechanics tell you to change every 3000 is another way of making money. i agree somewhat on that.

The reality is that once the car has broken in it can not possibly hurt to change it every 3K. Acura recommends every 7.5K for normal use and half that for severe use. I consider anyone doing regular track or autox days as severe use so every 3.75K sounds right to me. It's cheap insurance.
The reality is also that most new engines will probably run 100k without an oil change and anything more than that really only helps extend life beyond 100k. Change more often and you get extended life.
Also if you don't change the filter then changing the oil is pretty much a waste of time.

... you mean you're supposed to change the oil? How do I get it out of that cap?

The 3k oil change must be one of the greatest marketing successes of the last 20 years. Most car manuals now recommend 7.5K miles. My friends in Europe change their oil every 10k miles.

I go by what the owner's manual says. I rely more on what Mr. Honda says than what the lube centers say. That every 3K miles oil change is just unnescessary and a way to spend more money in maintnance. Also, is to increase the oil and filters sales up so the marketing chain keeps happy.
