I just purchased some new "green labeled" Honda MTF for a fluid change, as they had none of the old red/black label MTF at the dealer. Will this work with my 94 Accords 5 speed?

I am suspicious because it states "lower fluid friction" and "better fuel economy" in addition to the green echo friendly looking label, which can mean less protection for the tranny in place of Honda being able to claim a .5 mpg increase.

Am I paranoid? I really think it might be a lower viscosity/less protection gear oil than the old Honda MTF...

It's good stuff. Most people's opinion that used it, is that they like it.

 

Thats what I was hoping for, especially if its much better in cold weather. Thats why I was doing a MTF change to begin with, to get back my smooth shifting now that the weather has turned cold.

What do you mean by modified syncromesh?

Above is a post and opinions about it. Personally I think it just does a good job of masking problems, but there are a ton of people who will swear by it.

 

Works great, friend's Civic used to grind a TON, when we changed it to the new Honda MTF absolutely no more grinds.

 

I own a 01' civic and also wondered the exact same thing as i poored the new gray type II fluid into my trans, it seems the old stuff was 10w30 and the new stuff is 5w30, i now have 20k on the new fluid and when floored up the mountain passes in 5th at 70mph i do here a bit of tranny whine! I was wondering if my street bike oil would work better. Its hondas HP4S 10w30 full snythtic?

 

Well my '99 Ex manual is got a bit of gear slow syncros with 160k on teh cloack in REAL cold weather. 10 degrees this am in New Hampshire. You think Green label will help me, or just Syncromesh it.

 

I did some checking, the MTF and all honda auto and honda motercycle oils are manafactured by a company called Idemitsu, they are the worlds largest supplier of custom blended oils. Pretty cool stuff

 

Hey, is the new green label compatable with previous white cap Honda MTF?? Still have a bottle from last time I changed it?

I never quite believe in the "green" label. Most of the time it is a trick to get more money from customers since anything with the label "green" is cool these days, even if it not strictly green at all.
