Default Poor Gas Mileage

Yo, im sort of a new noob but any help would be appreciated. i have a 99 lude auto and it's really starting to bug me because of it's fuel consumption.. today i had about 5 gallons and after driving about 14 miles i was down to 2 gallons. i just bought this car so i haven't really looked much into yet. another thing that happens is that when i fill gas at the pump, the pump starts clicking and shuts off. filling gas takes forever ! i stick the pump in all the way too. Thanks.

fuel leak. check your fuel lines under your car.

it's a mechanical setup, prevents overfilling and spilling fuel all over. I highly doubt that this 'clicking' would spark any fires.

If you are loosing the gas in the engine, the CEL will come on and the 02 sensors will go crazy. Otherwise you must be loosing it somewhere else....lines, tank, fuel rail, etc etc...

Does it smell like gas anywhere?

sometimes when i turn it on, it does smell like fuel.. i do have a skunk 2 mega power though.. and i have no lights coming on. i was talking to a mechanic and he said that a sensor in the vent tube might be acting up and ironically hes having the same problem on his project crx ! he also said the loss might be because of the type of fuel i was using. i have been putting in 89 plus since i bought it without knowing that the lude required premium... im gonna have my college auto shop take a look at it tomorrow.. im getting paranoid guys ! my poor lude...

it wont hurt ur motor just makes it run like doodoo but a tune up would prolly be good for ur lude itll make it run so much better but like i was saying idk if that is the reason for your poor gas mileage

yeah, i've noticed a loss in power and the motor sounds a little different. the mpg loss could be caused by a lot of things. my school auto tech told me to start by adding better fuel to my car lol. i should pick up some octane boost to help this weeks tank out a little...

um the std ones i use they are a little more expensive but u get what u pay for u know and they make a big difference it really does help and on the bottle is says fill ur gas tank up then put it in bad idea put the booster in first so thats the first thing going through ur lines and injectors i mean it all mixes but u dont have to fill your gas tank
