Default 2005 civic LX 4dr, 2 rear breaks squeek all the time

2005 Civic LX 4 door
The two rear breaks squeak loudly when I move the break pedal -- either move up or move down, that is step on the break pedal (squeak) or release the break pedal (also squeak).
Same with the hand break -- which seems to be attached to two steel cables.
I noticed a similar model EX has the same squeak problem.

Mine squeak, too. (not terribly loud, though) It's more audible on the passenger side than the driver's side.

It's an easy fix, I'm sure. Something just needs to be cleaned and lubed.

I can't tell you exactly what it is, because I haven't taken mine apart to figure out exactly which component is causing the problem. (or if it's more than one component)

I'll look into it this weekend, if I have enough time.

Edit: Mine only squeak when I release the brake pedal, or parking brake lever. Not during application.

Just grease any point where the shoes are rubbing against the mounting surface. Release the clips holding the shoes to give you a little bit more room to fit a brush with some break lube and re-attach, your squeak will be gone.

Maybe just stating the obvious, but be sure to wipe off any excess lube that may have come in contact with the braking surface, a rag with brake cleaner will work. Hope this works for you.

Oh, yeah. I didn't lube it. I took it to a questionable shop.
