Cant Decide: 30r or 35r
i decided to change turbos but i cant decide whether to get a 30r or 35r. I have always wanted a 35r because to me it is the holy grail. but i need input from others. i got one friend saying 30r and another saying nothing smaller than 35r.
Both turbos should meet my power goal of 425
Setup:
Head:
GSR Head PnP by Alainz
97 ITR Cams
REV Retainers
REV Dual Valve Springs
REV Flat valves
Edelbrock Victor X Mani
Holley 68mm tb

Block:
LS block
JE 9.1:1 Pistons
Eagle Rods
Polished and balance crank
ACL Rod, Main, Thrust bearings
Turbo Kit:
Spoolin Performance Ramhorn Manifold
Spoolin Performance 3" Downpipe
Tial 38mm Wastegate
Tial 50mm Blow off valve
RC 750cc Injectors
Spearco 700hp Intercooler
Thanks

Seems like if you are truly comfortable with your HP goal you would want the smallest turbo that could get you there without pressing the limits of its performance, so I would guess the guys on here would suggest the gt30r over the 35. Your motor build is nice, so it's not like you need the additional "softness" of a bigger turbo not making boost as low in the RPM range or anything.
GT3076 gets my vote. It has near instant spool but has more top end than other GT30 trims. I have mine with the S-cover option, .60 trim wheel, and .82ar exhaust housing. It seems to pull harder than my buddys car with the exact same setup as me except he is running a 35r, same manifold, same supporting mods, etc. I am making 400whp with the turbo on low boost, you should be fine with it.
+1. I currently have a 30r, and love the quick spool, but it maxes out around 520whp. How ever, if you only plan to stay at 425whp then a 3076r with a 63 hotside is what you want. gt35r can get you there at lower boost, but you would creep more.

425 was just i random number i was throwing out there. i have a greddy ebc that has a high and low boost setting.i figure i'll have low boost around 275-300 whp and high boost for whatever i can get. I have a T67 but would rather have one of these two turbos, so if anyone has either and wants a T67 let me know. I already know im going to have traction issues, so anywhere between 425-475 whp would be cool

I run a gt3076r .82 ar exhaust .60ar in 4" inlet and I love this turbo. Great spool and makes good power on my GSR 340whp at 10.5 lbs. So if you plan on staying in the 400's Def 30R gets my vote.
Even at 425 you still have alot of head room to grow with a 30r. Its stupid to go bigger than you need, unless you like lag or need something to brag about.

my 35r with a divided t4 exhaust spools up as quick as my old 30r did, and my t3 35r before that spooled up about 500 rpms later then the. generally speaking with the same exhaust housings, i would expect 300-500 rpms difference. would really depend on the setup though. there is no reason so run larger than a 30r for 425whp.

Saving my daughter's lunch $$ for one of these then!
