Power loss w/ bouncing tach bad dist. connections?
I went to the track last night, and my car was posting some dissapointing times. After my friend runs it he notices that the tach is bouncing around. The H-T search leads me to think I have to check the ignitor wires, but would this cause a power loss? Car was nowhere near as fast as it should be. Could that tach be so out of whack that it was indicating a higher RPM than it really was, leading us to shift early, thus run slower? Or, would loose ignitor wires cause a power loss? Also, while idling, the needle will sit on the little needle rest...indicating 0 rpm...while the idle is actually higher than stock because of the cams. Any help or ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you Honda-Tech community!
I would say check the ignitor wires and/or ignitor for sure. I'm not sure if the ignitor can cause weak spark and lose power that way, but it could defenitely make you shift too soon with a bad tach reading.
alex, try the ignitor. from what i was told an ignitor from ANY model honda will work. i am sure sonic has a spare dist. around that you can grab the ignitor from to see if that remedies the situation.
The answer to all of your questions, is Yes.
Make sure the rotor dust shield in intact, you have good, sealed connections to the ICM, and there is no damage to any wires in the distributor. These are more common problems than the ICM going bad.

Thanks guys for all the help. I know where the dist. is but where is the ECU ground? Oh, Kieth did you hear Nick's car ran a 15 flat with Chris driving?
