Default Heaviest Shift ****...

...that is carbon fiber or just not metal. The seasons in B'more get quite bipolar.

To be candid, the heaviest non-metallic **** is probably a stock DC Integra shifter. I can't recommend short shifters tho. Tear your trans up.

not metal? dang. i know the TWM desert eagle is heavy as crap, but...alas, it is metal.

re: short shifter, i use the old comptech piece. i love it.

on this cable actuated tranny? nah. it changes the geometry of the shifter to the cable, but the cable to trans actuation is the same as stock.

Haha yes I love it! He might have more fun if he slobs the cob or bobs the ****!

And OP wait a sec.

You say you need a shift **** that is non metallic because they get cold in the chilly weather? Are you making love to the thing? Just shift and let go of the damn thing. It takes all of 10 to 15 minutes to get my car warm when it's 15 degrees outside.

And if your shoulder is shot to **** a short shifter may actually make you work harder. The stock longer shifter lever gives you just that, more leverage, which means less effort. The shorter lever gives you less distance traveled for the shifter arm but the trade off is more effort.

I'm not against the short shifter, just saying.....

a short shifter adapter in this car, like the comptech piece, doesn't make the lever any different. it simply changes the geometry of the piece that attaches to the actuator cable. the only change is shorter shift distance (throw) at the expense of nothing.

I find that hard to believe because with short shifter pieces or kits that is generally understood to be the trade off. But if you say so I'll go along with that. I haven't got one yet but I'd like to get the mugen one because Honda is usually spot on with shifter feel according to most car mags.

The mugen is the exact same as the oem shifter in terms of shift throws. The "short" past of "short shifter" is literally the length of the shifter.

I don't understand what you are showing me k5? Are you saying the mugen is no good? I thought is was better cause it's the complete unit and not just the lever?

I should have been more clear, my bad. I really like the mugen shifter because of the reason you pointed out. However, if one wanted to get a shifter to shorten the throws, then the mugen would not be the shifter for you. Do not get me wrong, I'd rock the mugen b/c I like how smooth the stock throws are, but for some this maybe a disadvantage.

I kinda disagree with you K5. Not sure if I can exactly explain why well but.....Let's exaggerate for argument's sake. Cut that arm down to one inch. Keep that diagragm in you head. Now, how they are showing the red as mugen and stock as white. Ok so you got the mugen one cut down to one inch which is way shorter than what they are showin in that pic. Then extend the white 12 more inches, create an arc how they do in their pic between the white(long) and red(short) and measure the distance traveled. THe one with the extended lever will be more.

That little diagram I think just shows the two levers being close to the same size so you can't really see the difference

I see what you're saying, AJP, but it is not like we are driving a Mack Truck, with a 2.5ft shifter. The shifter is already rather short. When it is already that short, shortening it further is rather insignificant.

Yeah I guess that's what kept me from getting one. I'm afraid I'll get one and just think it was a waste. Your right compared to old stangs and even like my 01' civic ex our shifter's are really short and nice.

what ajp is saying applies in normal linkage systems where the fulcrum is not changed, but the rod is shortened (or if the counterweighting is not compensated for the increased leverage)

with the mugen setup, which seems to shorten the stick and also extend the cable interchange end (which is what really shortens the throw, has the little blue plastic cup on it)....and, with the comptech that just extends the interchange end (again, shortening the throw)....

both are not pushing a linkage, which is pulling/pushing an input selector, such as with d and b-series older hondas. the 6th gen shifters, they are simply pulling/pushing a cable that has all kinds of geometry already to make the exchanges super easy. you'll see when you take the thing apart that the selector cable moves with the tiniest amount of force. in fact, i believe there is a counter weight on the other end of the shift cable in the engine bay or internally to help add weight to such an easily actuated system. don't quote me on the counterweight, but i know my mazda is setup like that.

Sounds more sophisticated.....I like it.

I don't quite understand the cable interchange thing but being that the mugen setup alters that as well now it makes me want to get it again.

wow. you folks are all OVER this! gotta love honda-tech.

OK, so what i took from all of that was the mugen shifter actually makes the throws shorter (due to its...shortness) but also keeps the throws smoother, as oppossed to everything else. If this is true i'd expect to pay around $300, cuz mugen loves to bend Honda-lovers over and pillage their wallets.

But how about a shift ****? If i were to get something redonkulous like the dessert eagle, i figure to be able to shift with ease regardless of what setup i have; but doesn't something that heavy damage a car's components over time? Bull in a china closet? That can't be good imo

To ajp - us ravens fans get to experience the joy of low 20s and high 90-degree weather. The latter just down right hurts, although it wouldn't kill me to throw my ball cap over it to cool it down a little.

You guys rock.

Technically, if the angle is the same, the throw is not any shorter. It may feel shorter, but in reality it is the same. The bottom of the shifter is still shifting between the same positions. For a throw to truly be shorter, the distance of the throw at the bottom of the shift **** would have to be decreased.

Well us Patriots fans get to experience lows of 20 degrees below zero, and highs of 102 degrees farenheit. AND we get to experience more than one Super Bowl win!

Think of it like this, you have two 2x4s eight foot long. Fix them together at 90 degree angles then measure the distance from board end to board end. Now take two 2x4s that are one foot long. Fix them together at 90 degrees and measure from board end to board end.

The distances will be different even if the angle is the same. As two points continue away from a shared point of origin, the distance between those two points will increase even if the angle between those two points in relation to the point of origin remains the same.

When you combine this with an altered assembly below the fulcrum, you end up with a shift pattern that is significantly smaller, or "shorter" if you will.

Also I have the Mugen QS (JDM one because it's easier to get). When the original and the Mugen are side by side you can see the difference. My father (civil engineer) compared them and estimated the Mugen to be a little less than 30% shorter with some quick geometry.

Now if I can just hurry up and get home I can tell you how much better it feels.

As for a ****, I'm from Texas. Drove the car in El Paso for 6 months over the summer. Sun baked ***** are about 50 million times worse than cold *****. Here is a tip for metal *****, use a tank reserve cover. It's 15 bucks or so for a Mugen or Spoon one. Or use a sock, or anything to cover it.

Found a thread on 8th about the mugen ss being intended for use with the type r only. that is, it leans in a weird position for left-side drivers and all that noise. someone please dispel these rumors and tell me that kingmotorsports just sux a$$ sent the wrong ss to this poor bastard.
I know how things go so i know i'll get flamed for not posting a link of the aforementioned thread, but i haven't been on here in ages and "you guys" switched up the reply format/i'm just retarded. here...
