Today I took the head off my car because the motor needs new rings. I had my motor built by a shop because I didnt know what I was doing. I paid over $6,000 to have the car built and sleeved. Now I pulled the head on my own and the motor doesnt look sleevesd. Can anyone confirm are these sleeves? Or is this a block guard? If it's a block guard could that be added to a sleeve job? Thanks!!!

If it helps, on the left side of the right cylinder are the letters ARSS... carved in the metal. There are a few numbers after but you cant see them

 

Looks like block guard to me, not sure about the sleeves. Someone who knows more than I will probably tell you.

 

Thanks. For others, could the block have been re sleeved with some straight sleeve and reinforce with some type of block guard? I think it must be a block guard but are the sleeves oem?

i would have a hard time useing that block with it being welded. and also it looks like the sleeves are sitting lower than the rest of it. is there headgasket problems?

 

Really?? Why? I ran it for about 10K miles at 19psi. I think my rings are blown that's why I pulled the head. Still trouble shooting it now. I always thought this shop was selling me shitty parts. But youre sure it's sleeved?

Looks like some sort of aftermarket sleeve with a hack welding job done by a shop that was clearly out of touch with modern sleeving of Honda Motors, definately not GE Godzilla though.

I feel sorry for you that they charged you that kind of money for that, go take them some pics of an GE, AEBS or ERL Block and show them what you could of got for $3500

 

I was not having head gasket issues that i know of. A bunch of gas was getting into my oil so thats why i thought it was rings. Im pulling the pistons out now, ill have pics up soon.

The worst thing is they told me this was an AEBS block! I called and emailed AEBS and they confirmed this is not their work. Then I called GE to ask about their godzilla sleeves. They said they havent made them in like 5 years. He hasnt looked at the pics yet to confirm this isnt them. Why don't you think its godzilla sleeves? Do you think this is just a block guard welded to some random sleeve? I think they lied and said its an AEBS block. I bet this was just some **** they had laying around the shop!

 

What's the risk of running a welded block?

 

My opinion is that if a person doesn't know what they are doing when they weld a block you could get weak spots. And there is lots pressure and vibrations around the sleeves. I don't see many block guards being used anymore.

 

I own Godzilla Sleeves and what you got pictured.... well its really hard to tell, if they are then for some reason whomever ravaged your block welded a block guard on top, if they are Godzilla's who knows why they installed a blockguard the sleeves are already supported at the top.

The GE sleeves are actually called Goldzilla sleeves. Very common misconception.

They sure look like sleeves and a block guard with some weird *** weld job?? Not really sure. I can say forsure they look nothing like my GE HD sleeves so that rules that out! LOL.

Who the F.U.C.K. welds in a block guard or sleeves these days I have no clue. Sh*ty install regardless.

Your pistons look like Arias's. Pistons look fine from what you can see in the photos.


oh, I can see your still running the stock PCV system. Do your motor a favour and get a real catch can setup installed. search here on vcc for great write-ups and they explain all the advantages, why, how, etc.

 

Thanks for the help and pictures. Ill post pics of the pistons in a minute but two are shot! Now my question is should I approach this shop for help or just sue them since they told me my block was sleeved by AEBS? Also, notice the headstud that was installed up side down? Nice..... Oh and one more thing, who thinks I should bore this from it's current 81.5 to 83 and buy new pistons for this block?

Once I decide what to do I'll speak out about the shop. I was reviewing the parts I took off my car and guess what..????.... The turbo I bought, is not the turbo on my car. I bought a Garrett w/ a 63 ar. The turbo that's on my car is a Precison w/ a 60 ar. WTF!!?? I think Im going to have to get a lawyer for this one.

Cool head studs, huh? I think this shop charged me 6 grand for old **** they had laying around their shop. What would you do?
