Default few questions about a turbo setup

is there any difference between the basic manifolds and the custom bent-made ones

who made the bov paul walker had on the eclipse on the 1st f&f movie

where can i get the anodized housings for the turbos at

should i run an oil cooler for a dd setup

where can i get good rings for my pistons that wont fack up

is the back door methood a visual thing or does it really make a difference

what things can i do to prevent malfunction-damage to my motor or my setup so i can get on it

is it logical to run more than 15lbs on a dd setup

if i have an ef9, can i run a rear mount setup so no one knows what i have or will it be too risky because of heat problems and or clearance

are 750cc injectors perfect or too much for a dd car

i had a problem with my old setup on my sti and the connectors kept on slipping off the piping, are there any better connectors out there

ill post up more questions as they come across my hat rack

Qaulity, Longevity, Reliability, Performance, and Price... those are the only differences.

who made the bov paul walker had on the eclipse on the 1st f&f movie

I'm going to assume that's a joke and move on. otherwise I will let someone who knows chime in

where can i get the anodized housings for the turbos at

typically you can have anything aluminum anodized... I don't know of a retailer and don't know that I've ever seen an anodized turbo housing...

should i run an oil cooler for a dd setup

what are your oil temps? that's really the only way to know... if your oil is running over normal operating temperature then YES!... if it's not then NO!

where can i get good rings for my pistons that wont fack up

Hastings are well liked, but if you buy CP pistons for example I think you should only use their rings. Who's building your engine? they would probobly be best to ask

is the back door methood a visual thing or does it really make a difference

it generally allows for shorter charge piping which is less volume for the turbo to pressurize which translates to faster spool time.

what things can i do to prevent malfunction-damage to my motor or my setup so i can get on it

Well built bottom end... frankly if you're new to it it might just be best to send it out. I'd trust a budget Laskey build more than I'd trust an engine I built... just remember when trying to save money sometimes you don't... IE piecing together all the parts might lead to you paying more total for a lesser end result.

There are other "tricks" too... some people port oil pumps and some passages, baffling oil pans, running larger capacity oil pans.... the list goes on and on.

If you want serious insurance then get a fully built/sleeved block and don't run it anywhere near capacity...

is it logical to run more than 15lbs on a dd setup

Subaru, VW, Mitsubishi, Volvo, Saab and basically every other company that's turboing cars nowadays seems to think it's fine... it's really all about the tune. If you're well tuned and the engine/turbo system are built to support the power you're making then everything should be fine.

if i have an ef9, can i run a rear mount setup so no one knows what i have or will it be too risky because of heat problems and or clearance

You can run whatever you want, wherever you want, yes there will be trade offs but most can usually be minimized or worked out. It's not going to take long for people to figure out you're turbo'd though... so that's a lot of work to hide what you just spent a ton of money on... and to run it in a less than optimal configuration.

are 750cc injectors perfect or too much for a dd car

That all depends on your HP goals... if they're 200hp then thats HUGE overkill... if it's 500hp then I'd go bigger

i had a problem with my old setup on my sti and the connectors kept on slipping off the piping, are there any better connectors out there

There are many high dollar (and copyright infringed cheaper versions) solutions but for most people running 20-30psi Tbolt clamps, silicone couplers, and bead rolled aluminum charge pipes hold just fine.

ill post up more questions as they come across my hat rack

Actually, im pretty sure thats the OEM BOV that comes on a GST or GSX.

I wouldnt try to use something like that on a higher HP setup in a civic.

^^^What's your budget for the turbo? You also didn't answer NonovUrbizniz's question about hp goals and the rest of the kit that you want to use.

And the BOV used in the movie was a Greddy Type S. I remember working at Honeywell and my friend's shop the year after that damned movie came out and we sold a TON of those. The owner of Speed Industry still has his, and won't give it up. Shame they stopped making them when the RS came out.. but you may get lucky and find one used.

With all due respect psychoteen, i have personally seen that eclipse, not by choice really,(i have family in (ge/nbc/universal pictures). And it does have an aftermarket turbo,i/c piping, and yes,a greddy type 's' blow off valve. 'Greddy' was one of the big advertisers(note the big-*** greddy sticker on the rx-7) and they installed parts on the feature cars as part of the promotional deal.
but since this IS honda-tech, i'll just leave it at that and get back to badass turbo hondas!

hmm, well just because thats what was on the car, doesnt mean thats what made it in the movie. Honestly id be a little skepticle that, that particular car with an upgraded turbo, BOV, and fmic could even cause any noise whatsoever to come from the BOV. Only a very small turbo could even spool enough when he was revving it up. Ive heard both kinds of BOV's in person and ive seen the movie many times (i know, nothing to brag about) and id put my money on an OEM ecplise BOV. Not doubting youve seen the car, but that movies was known to dub different sounds over to make it seem different...

pretty sure that the F&F eclipse was a non turboed eclipse that was turboed so a stock bov doesnt make sense.

NunovurBiz covered everything pretty well... just my .02

a well made tubular manifold should allow for the extra heat coming from the 2-3 cylinders with slightly longer tubes. The cast manifolds are going to be the most durable.

Seriously?

where can i get the anodized housings for the turbos at
I don't think anodizing would hold on the housing. I did have a thermal coating on mine that was shiny silver that looked nice.

should i run an oil cooler for a dd setup
Check you temps. Prob not. just adding a turbo kit affects the oil pressure. Adding a cooler would only give more area for the oil pump to fill during operation.

where can i get good rings for my pistons that wont fack up
rings aren't going to fail before the piston does.

is the back door methood a visual thing or does it really make a difference
shorter charge pipe yes, would you notice...prob not. Usually a pipe routing solution for a particular fit in a particular vehicle.

what things can i do to prevent malfunction-damage to my motor or my setup so i can get on it
TUNE IT

is it logical to run more than 15lbs on a dd setup
depends on the snail.

if i have an ef9, can i run a rear mount setup so no one knows what i have or will it be too risky because of heat problems and or clearance
if you have a kit that is worth hiding, everyone will know anyway.

are 750cc injectors perfect or too much for a dd car
depends on your setup. you are probably going to have idle issues with 750s. go with 550's

i had a problem with my old setup on my sti and the connectors kept on slipping off the piping, are there any better connectors out there
bead roll your pipes or get V-clamps

ill post up more questions as they come across my hat rack

^ definately do what you want to do but it's been done before and it does work... just not as efficiently or effectively as a normal turbo setup.
