Default Weird ac problem, 02 ep3 55k miles

Hello guys,

I have a problem with my ac... It was working fine until recently, the ac would turn on and off and on and off and on while I am driving. I also notice it did that while the car is idling. I notice the ac fan would turn on when the compressor is on, and off when the compressor is off.

1st thing I did was bought the gauge and freon bottles to top off and to see if its low on freons, Nope. Its full, the gauge shows it was filled.

Then I changed the relay in the fuse box underhood. Nothing still no help.

Then I checked the ground... theres only one ground right..? well checked that and its all good.

So, I brought it to a mechanic and he saids the compressor clutch is worn out and charge me 550 for parts and labor to replace it................

I just want to see if anyone can shine me some lights before I spend that large amount to get it fix. I did alot of research and tried alot but no help so far. The car only has 55k miles. Thanks alot

Is the AC belt moving when the compressor is turned on?

There is only one belt...its always moving. You could have a pressure switch going bad, but being that I went through this at about the same mileage, be ready to fork over cash for a compressor and clutch assembly. More than likely the next noise you will ask about is the one where the clutch locks up and your belt starts smoking until it breaks. The aftermarket support for the EP3's A/C is non existent so get your wallet out.

AWWW damn.... great.. thanks for the tips guys. Can I use the RSX compressor and swap it over? How bout the TSX compressor? Cause I do have a tsx compressor laying around. RSX compressor is a lot easier to find. Then the labor I gotta pay...
