Default Need help with 95 Civic transmission compatibility

I'm trying to help my father in law out by helping find a replacement transmission for a 95 EX Civic Coupe. I know for sure that a manual transmission that was paired with the 1.6L will work. But my question is what other transmissions will pair up with the D16Z6 engine? Will a transmission from the same generation that was paired with a 1.5L engine work? Will any 96 and up transmissions work? What about gear ratios and performance differences?

Right now I'm having a hard time finding a manual transmission locally for a fair price. I just need to know what options I have when choosing one that will fit.

Thanks!

Thanks, the ex/si is the one I prefer. Is there much difference performance wise with the lesser ones?

Any '92 - '00 D-series transmission will work (this includes all '92 - '00 civics and Del Sols, except the '99 - '00 Civic Si, and the '94 - '97 Del Sol VTEC)

If you want another transmission geared the same look for one from a '92 - '95 EX/Si, '96 - '00 EX, or '93 - '97 Del Sol Si.

Any transmission will grind if its been beat on enough, it has nothing to do with it being an EX/Si tranny (for the record the syncros are identical across CX/DX/VX/HX/LX/EX/Si* trannys (* designates '92 - '95 Si) I've used DX syncros to rebuild an Si tranny before.
