ok so i bought a 1991 civic with a b16a in it. its been converted to obd1 and its got a p72 ecu that isnt chipped. it also has a skunk 2 intake manifold with throttle body and a dc sports header. when i drive the car around it has a rough idle and runs rich. and when i take off it has decent power but vtec isnt engaging and for some odd reason its cutting my revs somewhere right after 6500. the check engine light is constantly on and i have no way of telling how to read the codes because the p72 ecu doesnt have a code indicator light on it. where should i start?

Read the codes.... and if the light is on you can check the codes because the light is illuminated...

There is a connector in the passenger side kick panel. Use some wire or a paper clip to jumper it.

 

the problem is that i dont have that plug. whoever did this swap didnt put it where its supposed to be..

 

I also have a B16a hatch, although i did the swap myself.
First off read the codes, from there the problem will be much easier to isolate.
