:: Advice - How does my removed head look?
I'm in the middle of replacing my head gasket, and I was wondering what you guys thought of my block and head as this is my first time ever pulling a head.. I did a lot of research and followed the manual, but any additional advice would be appreciated.

Also, when I relocated the head earlier, one of the metal circular tube things that stick out from the bottom of the head fell out.. Can anyone tell me exactly how many circular things I'm supposed to have on a B18C1? That was one thing I wasn't paying attention to. I think I have 2 (not home at the moment)..

Everything looks good to me. I would try to take some of that gasket material off on both head and block. I would take a straight edge and check for any warping?
Running a little rich i see...
The head looks ok. How many miles does it have? maybe its a good idea to do some brand new valve seals now that the head is out to ensure that you wont burn oil. Other than that, it looks fine.

The two tubular pieces between the head and the block are the dowels. There is supposed to be 2 of them. I would definitely put them back on, you can get them for pretty cheap and theyre super easy to put on. I think theyre about 2 or 3 dollars from acura or honda.
OEM valve seals are bit hard to replace. I would have a shop do it for you, make sure they are trusted. You will need to basically remove almost all the components of the head.
Price for head disassembly range depending on shops, but mine charged 450 for everything start to finish. That included the disassembly of the head, new OEM valve seals, and assembly again. I took that opportunity to change a couple of other parts that needed to be replaced, so i went ahead and got new valve springs, retainers, and valves, with a valve job.
OEM valve seals are the best. Stick with those and you should be ok. They usually run about 20 dollars or so from Acura or Honda. The labor is whats expensive. Make sure you get it done by someone who knows what theyre doing tho to prevent any valve float or incorrect seating.
