Icon3 3rd gen temp gauge problem...

So I just bought a prelude for a winter beater. 89 si. I drive it to my buddies shop yesterday, and about a block away the temp gauge shot up to full pegged "H". Past the red, to the needles mechanical limit.

I know it wasn't over heating because as soon as I flipped on the directional, t dropped back to normal.

Looks like a short of some kind. Where do I start trouble shooting it?

I gotta fix it...this is winter beater that's going to make trips to Michigan for snow boarding and Minnesota to visit family.

I think I found it on the water neck. Looks like it was already replaced. Any other ideas?
