Default Heating Problem

Car:95 civic ex 1.6l

Today my car started to over heat but i caught it at the right time to cool down the engine. I was driving around 90mph down the freeway and went to a complete stop at a exit... Can someone tell me whats going on with my damn car? Could it be my headgasket, leak at the radiator?

And also can someone tell me whats the normal idle rpm when completely stop and in drive, because my idle rpm looks around 400rpm, normal or not?

For my 99n Civic Sedan D16y7, my idle is supposed to be 600-700 rpm. As for your car overheating it could a number of things. Any more information about the problem? Bump for someone with more expertise.

The overheating problem happens only if i go past 80mph, and come to a complete stop after taking an exit, also it happens only during the day.

I had a similar problem. When I started to slowdown on the freeway, my temp started to rise toward the high side. It was a faulty thermostat.

could be a number of things, thermostat (said above), thermostat switch, water pump going out, or head gasket (<- if you see coolant bubbling in your over flow tank this is the problem)

Are you losing coolant? Any white smoke in the exhaust? If not, bleed the cooling system as described below. It the engine still overheats, consider replacing the radiator.

Bleeding the cooling system:

1) Park the car on an inclined driveway with the front end higher than the rear.

2) Push the dash heater lever/**** to MAX heat.

3) Follow the directions in the diagram below (hint: the bleed bolt is located where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine):

Maybe your radiator itself is bad. Or your water pump is going.
