Default S2k oem muffler vs dc5 oem muffler

Which oem exhaust will flow better? I heard that the dc5 muffler has a bypass flap inside or something like that and the s2k muffler is like a twin loop design. I just want the best performance.

Then you really want a nice performance oriented aftermarket muffler.

Keep in mind that the S2K muffler, while intended for a 2L or 2.2L engine, is part of a dual exhaust system stock. Each one is only intended for half the exhaust, and it might be too small for an Integra. Its also not a twin loop design.

The DC5 doesn't have a built in bypass. Its just a typical chambered muffler.

I really wanted a stock muffler that will give me the performance of an aftermarket muffler that's why I was really aiming at the dc5 muffler since cops won't mess with me. Anything that looks like an aftermarket muffler they will pull me over and harass me.

My setup:
b18c1 2.1L
LS crank/rods
rs machine pistons 85mm 11:7:1
skunk2 pro2 cams
real rmf narrow header / vibrant high flow metal core cat/ 2.5" piping and still choosing exhaust.

My power goal is to hit 215whp while still keeping a stock muffler and from what I heard; the dc5 muffler was the best oem muffler.

I also have the rmf replica header that I want to test against the real rmf header

My suggestion then:
Header -> cat -> resonator -> aftermarket muffler of your choice -> bend for rear suspension -> OEM muffler with the baffles removed -> OEM tip

Basically, get all your muffling done, then present an OEM muffler for visual.

I don't understand why the cops would bother you for an aftermarket muffler. Anything behind the cat that stays under the federal 95dB limit is legal.

There are also several straight through mufflers that look similar to the stock Integra muffler.

I guess you haven't been to San Diego. I got pulled over for having a chrome tip on my exhaust even though it was stock (they thought it was a modified exhaust). Then they just let me go after their lil check up with my id and all that good stuff. I've never been asked to pop my hood open though; just in sac 1 time by highway patrol when my car was bone stock lol. I know that if i had an aftermarket exhaust that is louder and more noticeable I would get harassed wayyyyyy more. I have a milano red jdm front dc2 with CF hood, lip, and trunk btw. I'll post up some picts later.

Also how do you remove the baffles from the oem muffler? I would like to do that if it didnt sound nasty.

I have a milano red GSR.

You do know that the JDM front is illegal, both for the lack of US mandated front crash support and the RHD headlights, right? I would think that would be much more reason to pull someone over than a chrome tip.

But, I have been pulled over for my stock exhaust. The cop claimed it looked aftermarket (which is not a valid reason to pull someone over, as aftermarket exhausts that leave the cat in palce are completely legal) then asked for the hood to be popped, and tried to tell me that my "charge pipe" was illegal. I actually asked for the ticket at that point, since my AEM CAI is not a charge pipe (I'm NA, can't have a charge pipe), and had the CARB EO sticker visible on it, and I was seriously going to go straight to the police station to file harrasement charges against him. His only responce was "please be on your way".

It will sound nasty without some other form of muffling on there, which is why I wrote to use a performance muffler before the axle.

But, to explain, cut open muffler body, cut out guts, connect pipe from inlet to outlet, close it back up.

You would probably be best served with an OEM looking aftermerket "straight through" muffler in place of the stock one.

If the police hassle you for a legal exhaust, you need to report the officer. Yes, we get profiles as street racers, but we need to take what legal action is available to us when we didn't actually do anything wrong.

OH yeah I think i remember reading your post about how that officer was harassing you lol. But yeah I didn't catch the part where you said put an aftermarket muffler before my stock muffler. Hrmm, will it be a bad bottle neck if I did it to my oem gsr muffler since its like 2" piping or something like that. So basically 2.5" straight all the way until I hit the oem muffler which will be a straight through 2" tip. If I do decide to do this I will be buying a 2.5" vibrant muffler that will go before the oem muffler.

Just stick a Mugen twin loop on that car and be done. I did...I grew tired of the ITR muffler. I loved it, but most times stock stuff doesn't scratch the itch.

That's not correct. The DC5R muffler, although chambered, does in fact have a built in bypass flap that opens near 5k rpm that allows an almost straight thru exhaust flow.

The S2k option as mentioned is for 1 side of a 2+ litre car... so the DC5R unit would outperform it. IMO... go for a proper twinloop like mugen, kteller or even a knockoff. The DC5R is a good unit and likely the quietest one you will get.

If I had money I would have bought the hytech twin loop already. I was just thinking about picking up the dc5 axle back because I can get it for roughly $200.

Interesting.

I'd love to see a picture of this.

Typically, when a car has a bypass such as this, they need to run a vac line to the muffler to activate it. I've had coworkers pinch the vac line on a previous boss' R32 VW to force it to always bypass, just to play a prank on him.
