EF question: BW S362 ETT vs BW S366 ETT vs ...?
Hi guys,
I'm looking for some knowledge of the differences between these turbos and any other suggestions that you can offer, say, if a T67HO would be better suited, or whatever - I'd consider an SC61 to be a pretty good match for what I want to achieve except I'm leery of Precision's reputation lately.
I have a GE sleeved LSVTEC with a LoveFab T3-flanged SST manifold in an EF chassis. First question - will these turbos physically fit? Secondly, what kind of boost threshold characteristics am I looking at? My goals are roughly 400 hp on pump, 600ish on C16. I definitely want enough power to hit 9s with the right chassis setup but I can't afford a hugely expensive turbo and it IS my daily driver.
I'm currently rocking a T3/T4 57 trim and it's ridiculously small for this engine. I make boost like a TDI diesel - 5psi at 2700 rpm, and it's just stupid - no fun at all because it runs out of breath on the top end. I'd be quite content with a 4500 rpm boost threshold if I have to have it that way to keep power to redline.
Thanks

The S362 in the S200 cover has a decent possibility of doing that, as long as it is in the smaller cover. Other than that, depending upon power goals, the Silver Surfer would do wonders as it was designed for 400+whp EF and CRX chassis while being able to fit in most manifolds. AND, it can reach full pressure under 20psi by about 4200rpms on a 9.8:1 87.2mm stroke.. But as EARLdaSQUIRREL asked, "what are your power goals?"
Here is an example video of one who used the surfer.

Power goals are ~600hp. I'm surprised it wouldn't make any boost at all by 4500, that's interesting.
Smaller cover sounds good for fitment as well - what kind of power loss are we talking about here between the S200 vs the S300 cover for the S362? I see the S362 is only rated for ~680hp, I'm very leery of running turbos to their max rated HP.

Ah, well, you're kinda stuck then.. No silver surfer, as that is out of its efficiency range.
"Building boost" and reaching Maximum pressure are two different statements entirely. You'll need to clarify when you want to build maximum pressure on your setup. From what it seems, your goal is a bit unrealistic based upon your displacement and power needs.
Power "loss" is restricted mainly between the covers by about 50-80whp depending upon boost threshold pressure. I'm glad you're leary of attempting to run the turbo at its maximum if your purpose is simply to do that. Your only other option is to go larger, or not go for over 620whp. OR, if you know your engine can handle it, not worry about when it will "spool", and just run the car. 600whp on the street is rather uncontrollable anyway.
G0 S366, hope you have the room, or go smaller. But again, these are rather unrealistic requests from ANY turbo in that list.

Sorry I didn't clarify, I typically use the car for drag racing and that's my focus for it. It's good to have a turbo that spools before I hit redline, but you're right, I shouldn't concern myself with that so much since it is mainly a drag car that I just happen to drive on the street. The reason I mentioned it is primarily because I'm running a stock 1g B16 head with LS tranny, so I'm limited to ~8500 rpm and I drop to ~5k between shifts. Less lag would be beneficial of course, but maybe I'd be better off taking your suggestion and going bigger, so there's more potential if/when I get upgraded valvetrain. It's already a 2L so that might help with spool too.
Thanks!
Thanks!

you might run into dropping out of full boost inbetween shifts, but could always fts or upgrade the valvetrain in your head and rev to 9500k. i say go with the s366 it should fit, plus somebody's gotta give Eli a run for his money!
