if you already got paint taken care of, then put some nice wheels and tires and wheels locks....( looks like your already dropped) and buy security!!...the rest you can spend to save up for a swap...
Depending on the motor, I would go with starting a turbo kit. If it's a crappy motor go to the junk yard pull a ls motor for like 300 rebuild... swap.. then if any money left over find someone selling some blades or fat fives and throw those bad boys on there. If you search around for a while u could prolly get some type of suspension for it aswell, but you gotta look around and find deals. That's just my .02 cents
I just came up on a brand new set of eibach sway bars for $120 shipped BRAND new from some guy that had it sitting for 3 years.
(i believe him cuz it still has the original shipping sticker from eibach with his name on it)
So i would definitely be patient and you cand get some deals and your 1grand will get you a really nice suspension setup ie springs/shocks and maybe sway bars or tires

There's no point in buying parts to go fast if you're car isn't able to deal with all of the safety issues that go along with it.
Suspension, brakes, tires, bushings, bearings....you get the point, and as silly as it may sound, brighter headlights.

i have always thought the first and most important investment is good suspension and good tires/wheels. those will set off your car with both looks and performance, and its a safe upgrade.

I agree with the handling set up first, suspension, sway bars, strut bars, etc. etc. What good is having all that power (if you go with that first) if your car's handling can't keep up? A well-tuned handling is always good no matter if it's a car, station wagon, van, truck etc.
I think a well-experienced driver with good handling has an edge over a novice driver with a hot rod engine. See "Initial D", hehehehhe.
Thanks.

if you only got $1000 id go with some nice used wheels and shop around for used bolt ons. screw the interior and the stock suspension is fine for now. go with exterior and performance, shop for deals on used stuff.
there is no replacement for good suspension. PERIOD. what the point in being fast if you cant use it? none. suspension is a performance mod IMO, and one of the most crucial ones.
Funtion and form full coilovers. and some stock wheels like si's or blades. and if i had any lefted over LCA'S or new tie rods, bushing , ect. but thats me. or depends what motor you got(d series) ill swap a ls/b20
Your hatch needs some TLC. I say use the 1k on replacement parts or fixing the dings and dents (unless that comes with the free paint job). I would jack the car up and look at all suspension components and see if bushings, cv joints, hub bearings, control arms, etc are worn or not. The way the hatch looks, you should focus on fixing all the little things and making it safe so you can avoid problems down the line. EDIT: Just noticed that you said you had new skunk2 coils, good start and wonderful coilovers, but you should still check every piece of your suspension components to be safe. A car in that conditon is bound to have some hidden problems.
AFTER that is all said and done, focus on performance/cosmetic parts. Trust me, it would suck if you got that new set of wheels only to find you have worn out suspension components that could go any second. Anyway, good luck with the project and keep things updated.
