Default Advice on my Swap Plan..

Hi everyone!

I have a 1996 Accord CD5 with an F22B1 Automatic. Ive had this car for about 3 years now and I love it but it is stupid slow. I have been researching the H22 swap for a while but I just want to clear up some questions before I actually go through with this.

Since I am a poor college student I am going to attempt this swap in 2 phases to avoid a long downtime since this is my commuter (plus lack of money to do both at the same time LOL).

My plan is to first swap in the H22a using my current auto tranny then hopefully by next summer I will have enough saved to do the tranny swap. (Also dont tell me to sell it and buy a manual.. thats annoying..) Anyhow..

I have found a really cheap H22a longblock. I know that the H22a is virtually plug & play with Accords but there are a few necessary details I want to clear up.

1. My main concern is probably wiring. Since the H22a is OBD1 and my 96 CD5 is OBD2 I need a jumper harness.. but how would this work seeing my car has an OBD2 automatic ecu? Would I just go find an ecu from a usdm OBDI (pre-1996) prelude that was automatic and this is plug and play? This wouldnt conflict with my TCU would it? I wouldnt mind if the car threw a CEL I just want it to run properly.

Are there any other concerns that I would run into? I know that the Driver's Side Engine Mount needs to be trimmed a bit but besides that would it basically be plug and play?

Thanks SOOO much in advance!

just my opinion- this plan could make sense if you're current motor was done or completely blown. but it sounds like your only problem is the lack of performance. start a pros and cons list for doing it this way. list out everything that needs to be aquired doing both and doing it all at once. then look at it all and decide if it's still a good idea.

if you want to save time and money, spend more time saving money. (cheesy..?) when you have enough saved up, do it all at once. you'll be more satisfied waiting for deals than if you rush into it just to get some taste of performance.

Do it all at once, you're doubling your work trying to separate things, really doesn't make sense financially. Read the Accord FAQ's swap info.

And ask this guy:

It would appear he's got it running with his old ECU but has plans on switching to OBDI automatic P13 ECU with a P19/P0N TCU alongside it.

Like others have already stated, save up until you can do both at the same time. I'm going to warn you right now, if you swap an H22 but use your stock tranny, you will be EXTREMELY disappointed. That, combined with the extra work involved if you swap the engine and tranny separately, is really just not worth the effort. Wait and do both at the same time.

Even if you have the F22 5spd tranny mated with an H, it still going to be slow; faster than a SOHC but won't have its full potential. I've had my F22 tranny with my H and damn its slow. But then, I went and bought a T2t4 LSD trans and man it hauls ***. More responses, shorter gearings, & even shorter Final Drive plus its LSD which makes it even funner. :D

If you want power, save up and go all out with a H22 complete swap with LSD. You won't regret.
