Haters rejoice (A20) content
I recently picked up a 3rd generation Honda Accord Hatchback that was repo'd after it was pulled over with incorrect tags from a group of illegal immigrants. Its in pretty good condition, so I decided to do an "old" school build up.
Does anyone have any build info on these engines? For example, NA horsepower numbers, etc.
I have looked, and found thus far that there are new cams in various stages available for them through Colt Cams, B16 intake manifolds of various brands fit with minimal customization (including ITB's), and alot of older prelude parts interchange (i.e. performance clutches, flywheels, etc.
I've seen examples of these engines reaching 160 wheel horsepower and 170+ lb feet of torque NA, much better than most NA D series motors, and non VTEC B series builds that alot of people do.
Any thoughts of how to reach that?
My ideas include higher compression, port and polish, a mild bore (84mm, only size i could find higher compression pistons in close enough to the stock bore). Along with an aftermarket B series intake manifold, and the typical intake/header/exhaust.
Has anyone else done anything like this?

man i owed a 3gee i had i fast tho i.e.h the works make sure its a a20a3 tho wirtuck supension i got alot of info on them but 3geez.com will help u out alot like puttin a b20 from the euopean accords o and look up obd1 swap that will give u tunnability
B pistons will not work. pistons have to be custom. the bore is 82.7.
header may have to be custom as well, you can find a pacesetter every now and then, but they are ****.
and just saying A20 doesn't help. if it is a 88-89 LXi that is your best starting point. they are the highest stock A output.
anyway though.. you really just need to head to 3geez and do some research. they aren't hopeless motors by any means but it takes more commitment to getting results.
carb motor 100hp or so. pretty helpless engine unless you put some webers on it.
86-87 LXi - 110hp/114tq
88-89 LXi - 120hp/122tq (has .5 more compression, diff cam, and diff intake/exhaust manifolds.
an OBD1 conversion for the LXi's is a great mod for tuning if you really wanna push it. which, if you did, could make a carb car FI.
i keep thinking of more... for porting..
the intake is the same as any B head. the exhaust on the other hand does well with an over sized valve
buuuuut.... don't rule out a turbo setup. these are solid as hell iron blocks.

Awesome info, thanks for some direction.
I just got an A20A3 at the junkyard for it. Any specs would be awesome.
Carbs eh? What options do I have as far as carbs go?

not hating, just hard to believe. I've actually been looking around on 3geez.com for some numbers, i haven't found any yet, although one guy talked of someone elses 164whp A20 with "b18 gears". The tq numbers are the hard to believe part.
look at the factory numbers though. 110/114 and 120/122. thats just how they come out.
the rod ratio (dont remember exact) is between a B20A and an LS.
it is a torque'y 2L 12 valve with a 6300 stock redline. and 7k would be about the most they are ever pushed.

there pretty torquey motors just the rpm range suck but with all the mods i had i could smoke a d series just do i.h.e and look at that b series mani mod and a odb1 swap or turbo which u will have to get a custom turbo mani built tho. O and there's a easy mod that will help u out get a map sensor from a 2.2 accord to replace ur 2.0 one but it will kill ur gas milage tho but its easy to do
