So just a few days ago when I started up my integra GSR at a parking garage, for about 35 seconds, the revs were bouncing between 1000 and 2100, going up and down up and down. I disregarded it, but then 2 days later it happened again-this time on a cold start. And then today after I got out of my classes, a rather cold day, it happened again. It doesn't happen every time, and only lasts for about a minute and then it stops. It only bounces in neutral only. So far, its only happened on cold starts. What could be causing this problem? And if I may add, easy on the mechanical slang please -I'm not so savyy with it yet.

 

This is a frequent problem with the Integra. I'm sure this has been discussed many times so be sure to utilize the search feature that this forum entertains. I have encountered this problem myself and other Honda enthusiasts tell me that its a vacuum leak. Also be sure to clean out your idle control valve located nearby the throttle body.

 

its 1 of 3 things. vacuum leak:1 , idle air control valve:2 or fast idle thermo valve:3

 

i had this problem with my 2000 hnda civic si and it was the idle air control valve

 

i am hoping this may be my issue too... cause mine does it no matter what

 

thats probably what it is,,, you can actually clean them out in some cases to try that before buyin a new one

 

ive had that happen to me 3 times!!! 1st it was the fast idle screw... i think that due to vibration they back themselves out over time. the 2nd time it was just a vacuum leak on the back of the intake manifold (skunk2 IM has that extra one for boost gauge or whatever) . the 3rd time it was a vacuum leak caused by a failed brake booster...

so theres a # of things that cause this but more than likely its an easy and inexpensive fix

 

My LSVtec does this too, it will run for weeks idling at 1k, but then all of sudden it will idle like 2k, or bounce between 1-2k to the point it sounds like I'm revving my engine. Then the next day no issue, it's the oddest thing, then either few days or weeks later it'll do it again. Sometimes it will do it at one stop light then when I stop at next it'll stop... Drives me crazy
