2002 Civic Si AC system trouble shooting
I'm looking at a 2002 Civic Si that is a good deal because the guy says the AC system is messed up. He said that the compressor and all needs replaced and that it can't really be driven until it is fixed because the way the belts are it strains the motor. He said the car got progressively worse, so I don't think it's just one fuse or something. He got an estimate for $1,400 to have it fixed. I don't really know how I'm going to test drive the car and make a decision to buy until I know for sure what is wrong. Is this a common problem? Any one have any idea of things I could try or if this is a good estimate of how much it may cost to have it fixed? Is there any way to put a new belt on and bypass the AC to try the car out or drive as-is? I know a little about routine maintenance, but this is new to me.
