speakers sound staticky after certain volume level
im going to go ahead and admit i dont know **** about audio, but i installed a kenwood headunit on my 94 civic, and it worked fine for a week, then after my speakers started sounding real staticky, like they're blown after a certain volume level. i pulled one out, and installed a used one, and same thing. all 4 of my speakers do this.
i figured i blew them all, or there was a short somewhere, but i couldnt find anything. i just want to get some opinions before i go out and buy all new speakers

Was it a brand new hu?
Does it do the static thing at all volumes or just when real loud?
Do the speakers smell burnt, and if you push in the cone (very carefully) is there any grinding?

it only does the static thing at volume level 25 (out of 35 volume levels), which is decently loud. when driving with the windows cracked, i cant hear anything.
nothing smells burnt. im going to try more speakers later, because the one i tried was a little old, but was still suppose to be good.
stock speakers? The HU is putting out too much power at this volume level to the speakers especially if you turned up the bass this can cause the speakers to clip which will in the long run destroy the VC's which will cause you to have to buy new speakers. The reason that this does not happen at higher volume levels is something I've seen in older stock HU's where they begin to limit the bass levels at a certain volume.
OR
using the on-board amplifier on the HU? In the many cases I've seen on this forum, the HU was NOT designed to output high volumes to the speakers, period.
