Default Chipped ecu and now rpms aren't working?

I have a real Jdm eg6 and I'm currently running the Jdm p30 ecu... Since I have a Gsr swap I decided to get a chipped ecu so it can run better... My friend lent me his ecu but the rpms aren't working... It works perfect with th p30 but not the p28...do Jdm cars need Jdm ecus? Help me...

there's no difference in the Tach signal for JDM and USDM ECUs, unless you're talking OBD2b.

Well the eg6 is obd1 but it has a obd2 swap... Could it be just a bad chip?
