Buying my first car, what do you guys think of this teg?
Hi guys, i'm 17 and I have been working long enough to a point where I can purchase my 1st car. I have been looking at the classifieds here for a while. I also have been looking on craigslist. I stumbled across this little guy a few weeks ago and went and took a look at it. I liked it, but my brother did not, he thought it was a tad expensive. So yesterday I texted him giving him a price i wanted, and he agreed. However, he is removing some of the parts. It will come with the GSR fat 5's (bad tires), and the stock intake manifold for 2.2k. It was originally posted for 4k with the Rota Ct3's and the manifold.
Anyways, I was just wondering what you guys thought of the car, since your experienced in the honda game. I am planning on keeping the motor stock, but swapping it in the future. Maybe an h-series or k-series depending on my financial situation. Here is the ad.
Front bumper has alot of rock chips, but the price is right I think.....
97 Acura Integra 5 spd 113xxx miles. The integra is originally a GSR model as shown on the clear blue texas title but has an LS motor in it right now because i blew the original one. It still has the GSR harness on it but has LS tranny and computer. It is sitting on 16" Rota GT3's royal red with polished lip wrapped around NEXEN tires. The rims and tires are almost new. They are only 3 weeks old. Integra is also dropped on TOKICO blues with SKUNK2 springs all around with coilovers. The interior is in good condition with no rips on seats or anything. It is equipped with PIONEER unit with IPOD ready cable. The body is straight and free of any major blemishes. The car looks very sharp very clean. Has no power steering but have the pump and line available to install upon request. Also has no AC. It needs an evaporator core, one ac line and the belt. Motor runs strong with a fresh timing belt and an EDELBROCK VICTOR X intake manifold and a no name cold air intake. Asking $4000 obo.

2.2 is not bad. But how did he blow the engine? And it doesn't have ac or good tires.
If he blew the other engine, what's to say that this engine hasn't been turned into a piece of **** too?

I would say you're better off finding a gsr, but $2,200 for that car isn't bad.
I actually rather buy a car that is bone stock so you can do whatever you want to it in the future.
If you want to find out if that LS motor is still good i would say you should do a compression test to see how healthy/bad the motor is.
Good luck!

and he's going to be all hasty when swapping the intake manifold because you don't want to pay him for the one in it, so i bet that will be a half-*** job.
ugh for 2.2k your laughing.
GSR shells alone r 800-1000$
Who cares if it doesnt have AC, i dont know a single teg owner that uses A/c or hasnt taken it out. so it not being there is a bonus and less work for you,(u dont gotta take it out)
it isnt like A/C works in integras anyway. even if its new and off the lot and fully charged it eats more power from your car to use a/c then the car itself takes to run.
therefor your powerloss will be noticably annoying for you. with a/c on u have no acceleration power even.
u have a four cyclinder and a MANUAL at that. A/c 90% of the time in these cars r not used and or taken out.
who gives a **** if hes taking the aftermarket intake its already no name, LOL, u can make ur own noname intake for 15$ and slap a 40$ filter on it, or just buy a good one and ull be able to use it and also be able to use it in any swap u do in the future.
in terms of no Power steering, the car is totaly useable without it, just harder, but u will get used to it. But then u said u have all those parts anyso just put it in and ur that much more closer to stock and bettering ur car.
if hewants to keep the rims thats fine, they look like **** and red dont match white anyway. tell him to keep them and get your own, for now if u have no rims goto scrap yard and get rims for 15$ and some rubber just so it can sit n drive until u get new ones.
might wanna check your shocks and coilovers, make sure they arent SLAMMED to much or bottoming, if it is or they are, raise it abit.
front bumper having rock chips is fine, thats what spot and glaze putty is for, also body work, or just buy a whole new one.
for 2.2k u are laughing, people r telling u not to buy it cause their prolly morewell off then you, its not their first car, they dont really like/want it or are far more educated in buying veichles for themself, that when it comes to other peoples opinions it kinda gets ruled out over the fact of their own likings.
fact is u dont buy a car with everything u want done to it or on it. u buy a car and do what u want to it, changingn what u dont like into what u like.

i know what a manifold is, iwas talking bout his cold air intake.
but if u wanna talk about his manifold tell the dude to keep the damn manifold and buy urself a skunk2 manifold or go get an ls manifold from a scrap yard for 50$.
jesus people you guys are making it seem like his buying a car is rocket science.
im sure the kid wants to buy a car he likes and not pay for something someone else likes.
hes not gonna pass on a steal price for a nice clean teg cause somebody doesnt like his PHAT FIVES or something stupid that can be changed. LOL

No, it sounds like I own 2 integras and a civic SI canadian model and prolly knowmore about what I'm doing despite the way I type on here cause i dont give a **** about the internet then you do.
I dont pay for my cars cause they are payed for.
Why?
cause i bought them cheap and built them.
i didint get handed my honda or buy a honda for 10 grand then decide to do work to it cause for 10 grand this car looks better then one for 500$.
u r stupid.
he has an option to buy a car that will be torn apart of all the decent mods thats been added FOR CHEAP. The seller is taking the wheels and everything needed to get it running.
The buyer isnt gonna spend 1 grand in parts just to go buy the car from a guy to get it home. Its smart to find out what is going to be takin off then goto scrap yard and buy garbage replacements until he gets it home, which will prolly run him 100$ and not 1000$ JUST TO GET THE CAR HOME.
idunno about any1 else but im not paying 1 grand in parts to get a car i jus bought home then turnaround and do more mods and spend more money.
Fact of the matter is for all you idiots replying to this post without a clue whats going on.
Anyone buying his first car esp at age 17 isnt rich or dont have alot of money to throw into it after they actually buy the car register it and pate it, insure it and fix some small things. doing small things cheapily or garbagly for now to get it home n running works fine. as he progresses in his money or life those parts come off and get replaced, then brought back to a different scrap yard for money back (not 100% rake back of what u payed but atleast ull get some of ur money back and not be out the money u spent toget it home)\
and yeh there are spelling errors and grammar problems here because i didint take time to fully make a functional writeup, cause the haters on here are simply not worth the time.

hey buddy, you're the one that misread the this post and went ranting about the seller keeping his CAI when it clearly says he wants to keep the intake manifold for the offered price. i was pointing out your mistake so maybe you can get a better clue about what's going on. you're the one tossing around insults and getting upset over the internet that you don't care about.

I clearly know what seller is keeping and not, i simply told him to swap out the manifold and what was meant by my post is tell the seller to keep his noname CIA and he can get the car for even cheaper, cause to ricers CIA noname or not is worth 100$ atleast.
and i think its funny how u have to go threw my whole post realise ur still an idiot and try and make apoint on one scentence out of the entire story. LOL
is the rest over ur head? ur an idiot, i wouldnt even type here again. ur telling him to not buy a 97 integra GSR shell with everything working and with the car being so clean for 2.2k esp with the odo reading under 120k
LOL might as well tell him to go buy a 1 grand 4 door kia u idiot.
ALSO HENCE what i said befor, GSR shells ONLY that need body work go for 800-1k.
read, think, type, edit,re read urwork before posting it for me to read.
I'd recommend being patient and buying another Integra. If the engine has been swapped out, I wouldn't even look into buying it. Since you aren't the owner, you don't know what it has been through and by the looks of that price, it probably isn't good. What you should look for (as a great first car and one that will last you for a long time) is an Integra that is close to bone stock if it isn't already. One the has a clean title and if you can, find one that had only a few owners in the past if not 1. It doesn't neccessarily need to be a gsr. A LS/GS is just as nice when equiped with the right parts.
Dont be in too much of a rush to buy that integra, because you can end up regreting it, the most important question is if the motor is fine in that car. how bout the brakes, harness, ect. and if your learning how to drive stick in the car. are there any bad gears or leaks n stuff. (AND IF YOU DO GET THE CAR, N WILL DRIVE IT TO SCHOOL) (GET A CLUTCH LOCK)
mad hate in my thread y0!
Ok, I thank all of your for the advice, GREATLY! I think i'm just going to offer him 18, if he likes it then i'll take it if not then he can find another buyer. (It's been posted on CL for a while).
I guess i'll just start looking for other tegs. I have found some good ones but they are auto..... i don't want auto. So i'm just going to keep lookin around.
Idk if any of you have seen nabins civic with the GSR swap. If not please go take a look at it.

I went and looked at it, (twice). And it drives better then any other car I have looked at. (Been looking at alot of cars lately). The problem is it needs body work, and motor mounts. But I think the price is right (we agreed 2.3k with fixed o2). Also needs motor mounts.
One more thing.
I went and saw this GSR posted on CL for like 2.3k. I thought it was too good to be true but i called the guy anyways. I went and saw it, the front drivers fender and mirror needed to be fixed. The car was side swiped. (Nothing too bad, he already has a new mirror on it but its white.) But when I drove it, with my limited knowledge of cars, I noticed something wrong with the transmission. Whenever I would shift, the shifter would like, tug as if it wants to go back up (from 1st to 2nd, tugs upward from 2nd). He said it was the mount or something like that and that he could fix it. I also felt alot of heat comming up from the gear shifter. Then I asked him if I could take it to my mechanic and he said "he has people comming tonight to look at it" and that if i didn't want it right then then he was going to sell it to the people comming after me. I was like, ok w/e if you still ahve it tomorrow call me so i can take it to my mechanic. He never called.... lol.

i paid 2k for my car and it wasnt modified at all, but it was beat up pretty bad on the inside and outside, but mechanically the car was fine. 2k is about average for a car that is in need of work but you have to be able to sleep at night knowing that the car has been beat on.
if he blew the gsr what was his reasom for taking the gsr tranny out. maybe he pulled that swap out so he could put the ls in and kept his gsr. just my 2cents
i would reccomend buying a stock honda car that runs or doesnt run from the first to third owner u want to buy it from the first or second owner because cars like that wont have any problems and is reliable and havent been beat on by bunch of different people and these cars arr usually taken care of and clean and have good paint try to find one from an old person ad just somebody who was just into driving their car and keeping it well maintained and not into raicing or moding their honda and from there cuz im sure ur going to dump a bunch or ur money into ur first ride u can modify ur car the way u want with ur own parts ur own way it sucks buying some ones elses project dont get me wrong there are people out there who build these cars well and sell them for a good price but there very hard to find ever here on honda tech now on to stock hondas with blowin motors this is what i bought these cars are good becsause there perfect for swaps cuz the motors bad these cars r good for projects u find them tow them home strip them down then build and it doesnt matter whats goin on with them cuz they dont run perfect for the homda guy that wants to build i think of it as abox or legos
