Picked up a 91da, rebuild/swap?
Hey guys,
I recently picked up a 91 DA for 900 bucks, running fine (now) seems to run really smooth. replaced timing belt/wp icm plugs wires, and some other stuff that needed replacing after 224k. I'm new to working on cars, and still don't do very much of it. I'm wondering if down the road, I want to do a swap, or if i might be better just rebuilding the engine I've got. I'd be interested in swapping for vtec, but if I can rebuild this one (and by rebuild it, i mean have it rebuilt) for less money? I have no idea how much something like this would run, or even where I could get it done by a reputable business in the Sacramento, ca area (suggestions are welcome) In your guys' experience, what would be the better way to go? I want it to be reliable and quick, but first i just want it to be reliable, and I feel like 224,000 might be pressing my luck a bit as a DD.
Thanks.

Don't know the costs about everything, but if you want RELIABILITY, I'd say go as basic as possible. By that I mean, don't swap a VTEC into it because things just get complicated from there on. The more you got, the greater the chance something goes wrong. For my DA, hopefully within the next year I will rebuild the B18A1 that's in it, rather than swapping in a VTEC. But in the end, it's all up to you.
Yeah I think you're right. I just want to have a clean DA, just not sure how much a rebuild of the b18 is going to cost, kinda worried about it since im broke 99% of the time.
Why dont you start out with just getting some basic bolt ons like an intake, header and exhaust. If you are still not satisfied then maybe go lsvtec or whatever but thats totally up to you and your budget. Either way if you do happen to go lsvtec or swap in a b16 or b18c then you will still need the intake, header and exhaust so its not like you wasted money and time on something you will eventually not need.
