You guys say yes to the alarm LED but no to alarm antenna? I don't get it
I asked if the warning LED was a good idea to have if you install an alarm and all answers were yes. Now I read a post where you guys are against an exposed alarm antenna. Why? If the thief sees the antenna wouldn't it be the same thing as seeing the LED? What are the reasons because I want to figure out where to put my anttena. Thanks in advance.
the LED blinks telling a would be theif that the car is armed w/ an alarm...an LED wire is remote/can be extended and NOT right where the brain is... w/ the alarm antenna in most cases the antenna is right where the brain is OR directly attached to the brain.. an exposed antenna wire will tell the theif from the OUTSIDE before he even breaks in where your alarm brain is hidden... this lets him plan an attack before he even breaks in.... an LED can be remote from the brain w/ extended wiring and such.... just don't display the stickers stating what alarm brand it is....
Many antennas can be extended as well ( or if you really wanna **** em up....install a decoy alarm in the usual place)....its all about how you attack the problem.
wheres a good place to hook up the antenna? my "antenna" is hooked up to a long wire and the "transmitter" part at the end is a black box about 1"x1" where can i put this?? Should i hide the wire in the piller and stick that sucker to my headliner or ?
Same with me, the antenna has a reciever in series and is pretty long. It goes into the dash through passenger front pillar so unless they rip the dashboard out How can they trace it? Also the idea of a decoy... I think when audioroach says exposed he means hidden but findable. Where the mayority of the installation shops would put it. If they bypass the siren and go to work on the car that might confuse them and discurage them from continuing. I would rather have my insurance cove the cost of vandalizim than cover the cost of my stolen car.
good reply gsrRacerBoi,
buuut, if the alarm is still hard to get to and disable, and you have a second backup siren inside...its not going to be a fun job.

THe decoy system Really works quite well. Most shops just toss out the customers older/defective system that they are replacing. Why not reuse it as the decoy. I can across this idea some years ago: A customer came into my store to
get a new alarm.....he just got his car back from the body shop after all the theft
damage was repaired and they refered him to us ( we had done work for this shop before..we were fast and efficent and no complaints from customers...not bad for a Circiut City Roadshop ). His previous alarm had not done its job...so his expectations were low. I installed the real system in the area behind the golve box...while installing the decoy in the lower dash area..a "typical" install done by shops everywhere. Well a week later....I get a call from the irate customer....his car was broken into and the alarm was just hanging there exposed. I had he bring it to the shop where I exposed the truth to him. He had wondered why the alarm was still working while it was lying on his carpet. Until he sold his car....his car had 15 break ins ( he parked at a commuter lot along Chicago's Orange Line.....a thieves paradise...many cars...residental area where many people are away at work)...but no more stolen vehicles......sleazes would find the decoy and yank it out, cut siren wires and its still flashing lites and wailing....they bail.....
Hope this helps.....Sorry for the long post.

I have a decoy brain and harness that leads to nothing under the dash since 1997.. I have a feeling their going to get really pissed off and vandalize the hell out of my car or slash the leather seating or since their in there just get to the real one.. I dunno... I guess time will tell...
If vandalizim is what worries you I would get a $0 deductable insurance against vandalizim and have the underwriters look at your car for apprasile. When your car gets sliced and diced, the insurance will pay. I've made up my mind to put the anntena exposed but hard to see. Like under the rear view mirror arm. Thanks for your comments guys.
Lolz w/ my driving record and the amount of vehicles on the policy a $0 deductable would be an outrageous premium.. I guess its a trade off
