91 CRX SI engine swap turbo build, I need opinions.
Well, I have a 91 CRX si with a blown d16 stock engine. I plan on putting the best engine to boost into it and then boost it. So here are my questions-
What engine should I go with that will be best for running low boost, my plans are 7-10 psi to start. I would like to make maximum power, but I am also concerned with relability. This will not be a daily driver. I was really thinking of two options here
1. B18A swap since it is already an SI, my buddy has a spair CRX with a B18A motor with 125k miles. He was going to sell me the swap for $400.
2. I could just go with a D16 motor, either Stock Si, Z6, or Y8. The props here would be a cheaper replacement, although It would be less power. Going this route I also will have a little more room in the engine bay and only need the engine to get it going.
Personally the B-series swap is what Im leaning towards.
Second,
I am also going to order or begin to compile Turbo stuff for my build as I want to get this going Asap. My goals are to have a 200-250Hp CRX which isnt unreasonable IMO. So,
I am in the middle on piecing together a kit DIY style or just buying a kit. I honestly though about XS Power to get me going and run a good fuel system.
What is an ideal way to get the best bang for the buck with what I have going on?

Something else I was thinking about was that the B-series cable tranny should be a little stronger than the D-series. I know some friends who go through transmissions like crazy with their turbo setups.
I would suggest looking into a B16. The higher compression ratio will help with spooling and you can easily make your power goal with your target boost range. I will strongly urge you to invest in quality brand parts. Stay away from imitation and knock-off parts that may initially cost you less, but in the long run may end up costing you more.
A D-series build would be a good consideration too, there are many out there who have gotten that kind of power out of stock motors. Again, just use good quality parts and you should be ok.
Also, don't get too caught up in boost numbers. Horsepower is the more important number to be concerned with.

Both of the motors will get you that goal, it's up to you what you want really.
As kind mentioned before boost numbers don't matter much as 5 psi off one turbo will be a lot different then 5 psi on another turbo.
HP goals are better, and you can hit yours with any of the D or B motors off a lot of different set ups, budget and power band are up to you.
Personally due to the option to go LS why not? Gears are better both in strength and gearing of the trans.
It's a bit more work and you can run 250 ish on a D trans with out problems.
So what do you want for a power band? How much can you spend?
