Default Help me out with slicks!!

I have a 5th generation prelude and tonight went to the track and considering the setup, I ran horrible times. Currently I have kdw2's and they were spinning through three gears in turn resulting in horrible quarter times.

I have laying at home a set of 300zx tt 16's (8.5 width) wheels, what manufacturer and size slick could I run without having to pull the fenders? I would only be using these for the track.

If someone could give me some choices of what specific tires to choose from that would be great!

Thanks!

I would go either Michelin Pilot Sport Cup or Yokohama Advan A048 tires in size 205/55R16. Both can be driven to and from the track and don't necessarily have to be shaven -- although they would benefit from it, especially the Yokos.

Ugh, get rid of the 16's. Get some light and inexpensive 15x8's. Use either a 23" or 24" tire, depending on power level.

You're going to need to pull or at least roll your fenders if you want to run an actual drag slick.

A048's are designed for circuit racing, the sidewalls aren't ideal for drag racing. I'd recommend the drag racing friendly Nitto 555R or if he wanted an extreme tire then a Mickey Thompson ET Street.

Is this for the track, or for the dragstrip? Because you mentioned the track, but it sounds like you might instead be talking about drag racing. If it's for the track, Cooper's suggestions of R compound racetrack tires are excellent. If it's for the dragstrip, you'll want a set of drag radials.
