Default Headlight Upgrade

Hey everyone - I'm new to all this so hopefully this is the right place to post...

I just got a (virtually new) Black 2008 Honda Civic EX and want to upgrade the headlights to something a little brighter and whiter/bluer. (hate the yellow stock bulbs!)

I'm on a pretty tight budget - HIDs or replacing the whole headlight assembly isn't really an option for me right now.

I really would like a pure white/blueish tint to the lights - I'm going more for the cosmetic appeal right now... Any thoughts on good bulbs? Is it a bad idea to go with colored bulbs? Any technical problems with that?

I've been considering these: anyone have any experience with them?

1) StreetGlow Xenon White 55w

Thanks!

Dont Do It. You might see some improvement but overall you will probably still be dissapointed.

IMO save up some money. Im sure you can save atleast $100. IntenseHid.com has a kit for that much.

And the install is easy. Difficulty: 2-3/10

agreed. doing it the correct way would be going with a retrofit, i hate being blinded by ricers who install hid bulbs in their non-hid headlights

i had 55 watt 4300k bulbs and they were awesome.
i could see everything.
you need to aim them just right so nobody flashes their hi beams at you.
nobody has done it to me when i had them.
now im back on 35 watt 8k. they're alright lol

Thanks for the feedback - unfortunately HIDs aren't an option, so I guess the other two possibilities are the "Philips Xtreme Power's" or *maybe* the Sylvania Silverstar Ultras (although I've heard a lot of bad things about the silverstars frankly...)

Anyone have any experience with the Philips? There's no blue coating, just a brighter light.

If you get aftermarket halogen bulbs, be sure to get aftermarket wire harnesses.

Otherwise, you're supposed "55w...Looks Like 110w!" bulbs will burn right through your wire harness.

I just ordered a set of projector retros, getting a good bit of work done and all the extras so mine are running me $1,400. From the same guy you can have projector retros done for around $700 easily.

The issue with doing regular swap upgrades is you don't pick up that much of an improvement. I have a feeling I'll have to do some work on my fogs when I get them in, just so they can keep up.

I'm ordering retrofit parts and it's not coming anywhere close to that money. I got less than $240 in it with the HID kit and projectors. Just waiting on the mail man now...

Yes but Riley is having a professional do it. I'm not saying your DIY job won't come out well, but he is having someone else do it.

Also, by the looks of his price, he might have bought another set of headlights (rather than send them his ones off his car), could be getting color mods, color matched pieces, maybe even quad projector, etc.

Could be harder to source parts in Korea too, if that location is correct.

daymn dude, nearly 100% correct. I did get a decent deal on a set of near new OEM headlights. My car is used weekly even with me more than half the world from it right now. Color mods, trimmed in OEM color, S2k projectors, CCFLs, and cleared corners. Plus I had to get a HID kit that fits the S2k projectors and a new harness for it.

I'm military stationed in Korea, I have an American mailing address so it's not really an issue. I'm simply getting a lot of work done is all.

Anyway...just buy an HID kit and call it a day.

I'm blinded by many "legit" projector setups on a daily basis.

I got my projectors from http://store.theretrofitsource.com/
When I placed my order, this guy called and made sure I got all the discounts they offered right now, including 5% off because it's September, and free shipping because I am a member of the HIDPlanet forums

And I got a bi-xenon HID kit for D2S bulbs from http://xenithxenons.com
This guy is the HID sponsor for EPHatch and he will bend over backwards to make sure you get what you want ASAP. Great customer service.

I also had to buy a Dremel tool, but I've been wanting one anyway, and I didn't include it in my total

thanx for the links! The prices are cheaper than i thought i was going to end up spending. What projectors did u get if u dont mind me asking, same with the kit from xenithxenons if u dont mind again... On another note how hard do u think it is to do the retro urself? I kind of want to try it just because im a hands on guy and prefer to do things myself. But dont mind paying if i have to

Dang, my previous car had halogen projectors and it was a cinch to go HID with PNP kits. Seems like too much work to go retro, but seems like the only true option.

I am not scared of this at all. I've read several how-to's and watched a few YouTube vids, I feel like I have the process down.

I got the "Value" FX projectors. That's just stock OEM units without the upgraded clear lenses. Saves $50
As far as the PnP kit, I just picked out all the options I needed for the car. Bi-Xenon, bulb size, blah blah blah. I got the 4300K bulbs with the 35w ballasts

Watch/read how-to's like TTownEP said and it will help you a lot. This is one thing I don't care to do myself so I paid for it. Plus if anything goes wrong, I get to blame someone else lol.

Can someone tell me why, people pay that much for a retrofit, when they can buy two whole new headlight housing units for 300 bucks?

if you want to upgrade your lights then just go find something at the local automotive store... like kragen or autozone... etc. But if you still want something fancy then go ahead with the street glow...

What headlight housing comes with hid projectors combos that are compatible with 8th gens for 3 bills?
