Ok guys here is my setup

ls vtec

1.9 bottom end
12.5 compression

grs head
skunk 2 cams pro series stage 2, valvetrain and gamgears

I am either buying a victor x manifold or skunk 2 maniflod

I am planning to leave all motor but don't know what intake manifold to use

I would love to hear the responses

i would the skunk 2 pro series over the victor x. the victor x will probably be overkill for your setup

the skunk2 is nothing but a type r replica with some porting, the victor or performer is made just for performance

That's not entirely true. The Type R design is a good design and tends to beat the performer X in the very top end on a 1.8L. It also tends to be a good manifold choice for many B20's. They are ALL made for performance, but like all parts, some are better suited for some builds than others and it's up to the individual to determine what that is.

Then at what point in an N/A build does the larger manifolds and throttle bodies actually become necessary? My point is why by bigger if it's not needed?

They become necessary when the rest of the build dictates, it's needed. That's the place where most people go wrong. A larger intake manifold without larger cams and a better header/exhaust system will be of little if any benefit to a build. Add those required pieces and everything compliments each other and solid gains are seen.

i think the victor would be better if it was made for bigger Hs to see that manifold tru power.

Going too big you create vaccum in your manifold , which is not good.

There's a reason why the "whale *****" aka JDM Intake aka Carbon fibar pwJDM intake is a horrible intake..
You can't distort the flow of air like that, and expect to make power.. its all about flow and how fast its flowing.. not how big your dick is..

The "whale *****" kills velocity and hurts power because of it's large diameter and replaces it with volume. While volume is important too, this intake would be better suited to a much larger displacement motor.

The Performer X intake works so well on a 1.8L because it's got plenty of volume in the plenum which helps top end power but the runners are longer than stock, to help velocity/torque in the lower-mid range of the RPM range. This is why when compared to a Skunk2 pro intake, the Px makes better power in the low-mid range. The S2 tends to catch it in the 7-8k range because it has shorter runners. The S2 was designed around a stock manifold and therefore has stock restrictions. The Px is much larger than a stock design and therefore has some fittment issues on some cars but will make more power because it's design was optimized more for power than fit.

This is also why custom headers make more power than something like a DC sport header. The DC is basically just an optimized stock design, made to bolt up to stock parts without modification. Custom headers tend to be longer and larger causing the person to do some customizing of the exhaust to get it to fit but will always make more power.

Is there a dyno floating around somewhere that compares the Skunk2 to the Performer X?

there's a dyno by kingmotorsports where the performer x dynos vs

skunk2 pro series
IB ported itr manifold
victor X
and some other manifold
and the pX ***** on all of them.

As far as the 1.8L testing went, yes. The 2L testing of the same manifolds showed a slightly different outcome.

Here is a thread, but pics are gone
