Default How often do you drive it to vtec over 6000RPM's

I do every day. Is this bad for the engine?

Nope, the engines are made to do that. It's good for the engine in that it will help keep out carbon buildup, etc. At college I don't drive my car every day, but when I do drive it I try to take it to redline at least once (after it's been running awhile, of course).

What do you mean by drive it to vtec over 6000 RPM? If it kicks in at 5,800, then that means just about anytime you hit vtec you go over 6000, unless you let go of the gas once you hit vtec. Please explain

It actually kicks in at 4,400

5,500 is just when the secondary intake runners open up (which is what you hear as well).

I think he was asking if it was safe to rev to 6,000 daily, which it is :D

I always forget that its actually 4,400 rpms because I don't hear anything until 5,800. It's safe to rev up to your redline but I wouldn't recommend doing it on a regular basis.

I mean how often do you crank it to 6000 RPMs and above, when the second stage of vtec kicks in and it sounds like all hell is breaking loose under the hood. It sounds great, but whenever I do it my girlfriend is like "that's so bad for the engine" I'm like no it's not, but she still disagrees and tells everyone I'm destroying my engine. So I'm wondering if it is bad for the engine to bring it to 6000's RPMs and above consistently...

She's probably not used to hearing VTEC and thinks its bad. Be like "shut up bitch, its only VTEC". I rev up over 6,000 whenever I feel like it, I don't hesitate. Don't be afraid to ride out your vtec man, bring it to 8 grand and shift. If you accidentally go over, your rev-limiter will hit and your motor will cut-off for a second to make your rpm's drop. If it wasn't safe, Honda would have made your redline at 6 grand.

just tell her you don't tell her that using the dishwasher the way she does will break it, she will shut up.

seriously, my car has over 100k on it, and I have no problems, I have been revving to red all the time since the car had 0 miles.

the key is, don't keep it up there long, don't go cruising down the freeway at 80mph in 4th gear. or down the street at 45 in second.

I have a 1995.. bought it brand new w/ under 10 miles on the odometer.. pretty much ALL the mileage was put on by me....my dad won't even get in the car..he says its small and he'd feel awkward because it looks like "some young guys" car...my sister hardly drives it and my mom won't touch it.. so other than the occasional test drive by my friends (which they drive it hard when I let them drive it) all the miles were racked on by me....

I drive hard and I hit VTEC daily and bring it to redline if there wasn't so much damn traffic and cops in LA i'd probaby do it more... its now 2002 and I haven't had any problems w/ my car other than normal wear and tear and replacement items.... I know I drive my car hard so I maintain it well/keep on top of maintenance religiously and only put in premium parts and fluids/lubricants... 3K oil changes... everything else (brake, clutch, coolant, etc) changed annually, everything else according to the 7.5K, 15K, 30K interval maintenance schedules, cap/rotor, fuel filter every 30K, etc...my cars never had any major break down or damage to the motor...

hahah I remember when one of my friends went from driving a corolla to getting a brand new GSR.. she would never dream of going past 5K even in the GSR...she'd shift at around 4K usually..... she rode in my car and I was passing 5K w/ the throttle open and she was all "what the hell r u doing...your going to blow the motor" I just laughed n took it up to 8K.... I guess she didn't know the car could do that.. it was fun watching her face the first time she hit VTEC after riding in my car Lolz.. I think her car has around 65K now.. no problems either...

my friend does this all the time when he cruising on the highway cause he likes how his exhaust sounds. how bad is this though?

"shut up bitch, its only VTEC"
LMFAO!

My dad said that when he first heard my brother's SI (he had his car before I had mine)... but now he understands ("STFU DAD! IT'S ONLY VTEC!"... lol yeah right, if I said that he would've put my head on the engine and slammed the hood!)

when my g/f first got in my car she said "christ is your engine broke?" i told her it was supposed to sound like that and she said "who would buy a car with a noisy engine like that? it sounds like its going to blow up!" Then i just smacked her one and told her to button it or she's walking!

when the second stage of vtec kicks in...
I don't think there's a second stage of vtec. Vtec kicks in at 4400rpm and secondary runners open up at 5750rpm.

ok, ok, the second stage in the audible sound of 'vtec', right around 6000RPM's.

it is healthy to hit 6000 or even 8000 but don't hold it up there unless shifting down and rpms are dropping due to brakeing. don't sit at high rev's going through the city....

How bad is it to make road trips in our cars doing 80 - 90 mph?

I go about two hours a week @ this speed sustained. It's turning 4000 - 4500.... I REALLY wish these things had a 6th gear

when I was in college in Nor Cal.. my ex gf lived in So Cal... I made my schedule so that I had Tuesday and Thurday classes and discussion/labs/sections on Wednesdays so that I could drive down to So Cal from thursday after classes and come back Monday nights.... yes.. the things we do for love huh?

I use to drive my car anywhere from 80-120MPH on a 5 hour or so trip along I-5 from Nor Cal to So Cal and back...btw in case you don't know the distances.. this is a 400+ mile trip (each way).... I did oil changes like every 3 weeks Lolz.... I keep on top of my maintenance.. my car has had no problems at all other than wear and tear/maintenance items...

Once my engine is warm, it rarely sees the bottom side of 4 grand unless I"m crusing on a 25 mph road. Everytime I accelerate, it's to nearly Redline. And getting on the freeway, my shift light is always blinking at me for my 8k shifts...
