Default Tried Everything, Car still not starting

my daily driver is a 96 acura integra 4 dr, stock everything, and auto.

Car ran ok at times and sometimes car would jerk while driving like bogging down. Changed fuel filter, fuel pump, cleaned injectors and put on new o rings, checked all fuel lines and seems to be fine.

Over the weekend the motor was shaking really bad, I was able to make it home (10 mile drive), parked it in the drive way. came out to check it the next day, now it won't start. It cranks but won't start.

So, then I changed the o2 sensor before the cat, now even changed the dizzy, dist. rotor, cap, spark plug wires, and plugs. I checked and it gets spark but motor not starting. Also I can smell fuel when trying to start up the car too.

just tested the tps with my multimeter and its good. Sprayed carb cleaner into throttle body and cleaned it, tried starting with starter fluid being sprayed into TB, still not starting. WTF can be wrong?

Also, the cel was blinking before the motor died, can't check the code, don't have a scanner. I checked the timing belt, alls fine, and TDC.

This sucks cause this is my daily driver, my project car is not ready to drive yet. guess I'll just have to try and finish my project car if I can't figure wtf is wrong with this one.

Just gotta drop in my motor I been building for months into my project and its done. Stupid DD, I still need my DD though, don't want to drive project/weekend car alot.

ok first what year is your car im thinking its 92 cuz of your screen name but cant never be sure but if it was 95 or less u can still pull out the codes. but since u put out your ecu the code might not be there any more.. also when u try to start your car it turn over right.. but how does it keep giving like a good pull or slow start to die down, or quicky die down...?

my car is a 96 and its obd2. My username has 92gsr cause thats one of my other cars I had, gone now, but my 96 4 door LS is my daily driver that is giving me problems.

I have owned alot of hondas/acuras and have seen all their problems and fixed them, I've built motors and everything, so I know hondas fairly well. But this is kicking my a$$.

The car will not even start up now, it gets spark and fuel is gettin there, timing is right on the dot, I've tried different batteries, all wires are connected, nothing loose as it is just stock. No vacuum leaks that I know of, all hoses looks fine. I know my cat converter has a whole in it, but that will not cause the car to not start up.

Tried a working ecu too, and still nothing. It cranks and tries to start up, the closes thing I get is it starts choking when the engine tries starting up.

Anyone have any more ideas, don't wanna take it to the shop. I like to work on my own cars, don't trust shops.

Are you hearing the fuel pump turn on when the key is on?

yea fuel pump is being turned on, not sure if it is fuel related. I tried starting it with someone spraying starting fluid into throttle body already, also I smell the fuel gettin to the engine.

after cranking it so much you should take out your spark plugs so that unburned gas dont sit on your pistons so it doesnt flood your motor

have you tried a new Main Relay? might be some sort of sensor (MAP, TPS, etc.) not an expert on these but it always seems like the problem is a sensor. another thing - have you checked your ignition timing?

you may have fouled the plugs by now with all the fuel you are dumping trying to start it . is the new distributor in right cause i have put one in 180 off before by accident . you got a good one though . have you done a compression test and such?

I checked the grounds and they seem to be good, checked the harness and all looks good. I thought it might be the CKF sensor, did a test and its good. I cleaned the iacv already when cleaning the throttle body, did a check on the tps and its working fine too.

Tried 2 different ecu's, and still no start up. Checked and resoldered main relay. Got nothing. I had a friend bring his scanner over and this is the only code we got, its a P1660 A/T-FI Data Line Failure/TCM - ECM Halt

Could the TCM (Transmission control module) be the culprit? Not sure if a faulty tcm would cause the car to not start up. Anyone know of this?

it's an automatic... the tranny is always the problem =D
The TCM could very well be at fault, the ECU needs it to operate.

I can almost guarantee you it's an electrical issue (your TCM connection?!)
If you have a multimeter to run a full electrical diagnostic yourself, do it. Or spend the 80 bucks & have a shop do it.

I've tested the wires and harness for both the ecu and the tcm and the it matches up with my helms manual. I don't have a way of testing my tcm though. But could the tcm really cause the car not to start up? I thought the tcm just controls how the car drives and shifts, I didn't think the tcm would cause a car not to start up.

Could or would a faulty tcm cause a car not to start up? I could get a tcm tomorrow, but don't want to unless I have to. I've spent enough money on this already.

found the problem and fixed it. Well, here it is!

After all the head ache and cussing, I pulled my engine harness out and inspected everything. Under neath the heat sink on the harness that goes to the dizzy was a wire that was open and had bad connection, they must've pinched it or something during the engine install. (This is a theft recovery vehicle where the motor was stolen)

Now the car starts up fine and runs. But still have that p1660 code, I'll try replacing the tcm to see if that clears it. Thanks for all the help guys!

Dang! Just one stupid wire under the heatsink.

just test drove it and runs like crap, would not shift gears at all and feels like fuel seems to be cutting off causing the car to bog down, I'll replace the tcm tomorrow. According to Helms, the harness that connects to the tcm also goes to the fuel pump I think. So the tcm is probably causing it to bog.

Plugged in a tcm I got at a salvage yard, and the car runs fine. No more shaking. Engine is fine, idle is good. Test drove it and it drives good. Still getting a p1660 code though. I'll do more troubleshooting on this dang P1660 A/T-FI Data Line Failure/TCM - ECM Halt

I love success stories! so rare anymore...
Try unplugging the ECU back-up fuse for about 15 seconds, should clear any residual codes.

ahhh, how could I have forgot that! yes, that should reset the ecu and clear the codes. you could also simply disconnect the battery.
