Default cylinder head milling??

I've got a 97 civic dx and I want to bump up the compression a tad. Are there any clearance issues with milling the head down .010 or .020 of an inch? I will probably do the thinner head gasket as well. thanks!

i millled my gsr head to .020 w/o no problem measure your deck before you do, and keep in mind the height of a 3 layer oem HG.

I wouldn't do any more then .040" total(head+block). any more then that and you can run into P2V clearance and could also limit your future choices on camshafts

well I've heard of this thinner head gasket trick, so that goes from .037 of an inch to .025 right? is that just peeling one of the layers off or is that ordering a specific gasket? I wont go more than 0.020 in the head.

you can mill a y7 head 2mm ~.08in without an issue. its the same chamber as the z6 head. a 3 layer OEM gasket when torqued down is .027", remember that. As long as your block is level you dont need to worry about that. If you mill more than .04" you need an adj. cam gear to correct the timing that will be off 1*.
