Icon2 Trunk Garnish

This might have been covered but I did not get the answer I am looking for with a search.

I just purchased a 09 alabaster silver si sedan. The chrome trim piece over the rear plate is driving me nuts. It does not match the rest of the car. Doing what research I can, it looks as if I can use a color match piece from a 08 civic hybrid.

Has anyone got a straight answer to give. All I've incountered is a bunch of MAYBE'S. Thank's again guys.

You could even paint it yourself.

ASM is not an Si-specific color, I don't believe, so you should be all set if you get one from another trim of Civic.

You can get an 2007-2008 trim piece and it will fit. I don't care for the chrome trim piece either.

Here is the part number.

This the Si part # 74890-SNE-A11ZE
Here is the EX/LX/DX part # 74890-SNA-A11ZG

it comes painted too!!!!!!

Wow, I figured the replacement panel would be a lot more than that. I may end up swapping mine out.

I can't say enough thanks. The part came in today and fits like a glove. Perfect color match and no key hole.

gotta keep in mind though, the DX and LX garnish will have a key hole, the EX and Si should not, though i have seen a few new Si's hit our lot with them for some strange reason.

That orangle pearl has a metal flake to it, right? That's going to be rough to paint match.

yeah that's why I was thinking of painting it black... there's no other chrome on the car, the front grille is black. i think it would look ok, but if someone has a picture of this I'd greatly appreciate it.

They sell the piece in various colors there....not in ROP but they do sell it prepainted in black.

BTW your car's brand new...it's not gonna be very hard to paint match a small little piece like that trim piece. Get a spray can of ROP and you'll never notice a difference if you prep it correctly.

I stopped by AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts today at lunch and DID look, but couldn't find any ROP in a spray can... i suppose it's still too new of a color for them to carry it. Worst case scenario: my buddy does paint work for a collision center and could mix me up a batch. I'm curious to see what it would look like black though (redundant, i know lol).

https://www.paintscratch.com/cgi-bin/place_order2.cgi

There's a site where you can order ROP in a spray can, in case you do decide to go with ROP.

Metal flake sprays differently based on pressure/nozzle/etc. I absolutely agree with you that it's a little piece, and it likely won't be noticeable, but it may not be perfect.

I swapped mine and made a thread about it. Removing it's not too bad at all, just get some angled needle nose pliers.

Yes...I agree it might not be perfect, but if prepared correctly, it might be perfect, and would likely be unnoticeable if it isn't perfect. A buddy of mine messed up the grill on his HRP FG2, and he got a NHBP replacement for cheap. I resprayed it HRP and matched it perfectly. I just used a few light even coats. It's much easier to hide poor prep and painting techniques with non-pearl paints.

how are you guys prepping? sanding and priming? or just a little paint thinner on the surface?

With something like the trunk trim, that really shouldn't have any imperfections, you just need to sand the surface smoothly and give the primer something to grab. Make sure you sand evenly. I'd use a quality primer and spray a couple coats with a flash dry time in between each coat. Let the primer dry fully (shouldn't take long), and I'd sand the primer, although you don't need to. If you do sand the primer, make sure the surface is clean (free of dust) and dry before you paint it. Use a couple light even coats of HRP (as many as it takes to match your trunk...with flash dry time in between) and let them dry fully. I'd wetsand the paint til it's silky smooth, and make sure it's absolutely clean and dry. When it's clean and dry, coat with one or two coats of clear. Let the whole thing dry fully overnight before touching it at all.

I'm not a professional painter but this method has worked perfectly for me many times.

Fiji... good tips man, thank you. I've done some light paint work myself but nothing serious. I painted a set of blades for my old dc that came out pretty good, but i've never done any color-matched paint work.

as for wet-sanding.. i wet-sanded and polished the comptech header that i installed on my old eg and that came oyt pretty good. what grit sandpaper would you recommend using on the chrome surface? the primer?

thanks again man
