Default transmission bearings

I have an 01 civic coupe. I currently have bad bearings in my transmission. Whenever I am in 1st and 2nd gear my tranny makes a really bad noise (don't know how to describe it). I took it to the dealer because I could not figure out what was wrong with my car. They said I had bad bearings in my transmission.

My question is, how long should I leave this problem unchecked? I really do not have the money to replace them right now (honda wanted $1500 to do it; lets just say I'm going elsewhere to get the work done). If I leave this problem unchecked will my transmission get worse with these bad bearings or will it just stay the same? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Search car-parts.com for a used transmission. Honestly for 1500 if that's parts and labor thru honda isn't that bad. I paid 2300 at a local shop for a replacement trans/install.

U can find a used trans for right around 200-300 bucks then save on labor and install it yourself. It's not that hard at all.

Alright. I appreciate the advice. What will happen if I leave this problem unchecked for too long? Will I completely mess up my transmission or will my bearings be the only things that get worse?

if you only hear the noise in 1st and 2nd, its not bearings

but if its just more noticeable in 1st and 2nd but makes the noise in all the gears and neutral then thats bearings

if its just 1st and 2nd you might have a bad syncro
