Cost of JDM front end convo for a 99 GSR
Wanted to know what the cheapest was, and are there any negatives with going with the absolutely cheapest set-up? Hood needs coloring so I'm thinking of going with the conversion, then getting it painted.
Over hear in California they go for $1500, the only bad thing about JDM front end conversion is, you cant go back to USDM because you have to cut the frame.
The radiator support needs to be removed, and it is held on by several spot welds that need to be drilled out, but I wouldn't consider that part of the frame. It can be reversed, the same way it's installed.
See this thread, JDM to USDM conversion:

DO IT! It'll only cost you $1500, parts and labor that is. Sell your stock 98 for $400, essentially it pays for labor work. Then you have to get it paint matched, and if you want to shave your side moldings. And down the line when you get tired of the JDM look, put it back to stock. Just look at mines.
I got my front end for $1600 and me and my boy did all the work in 13 hours. Main part was drilling out the holes for the radiator support. There was a little cutting to the inside fenders. Overall wasn't to hard just time consuming. Forgot to say that was for the complete kit wit HID's and everything.

i spent 1300 for front and my conversion believe it or not took 2 1/2 hour. my cousin did 5 conversion so he know the main point of what to do. mine are all bolt on no weld. still hold up good have it for 8 month already. main thing me and my cousin did was break the spot weld and replace the t bar then drill and cut some part then bolt everything with grade a bolt

I know your just trying to get a ballpark figure but you should really do more checking with local shops for a better estimate on the installation. That is where the real expense will come into play, unless you are doing it yourself. If you have a local board for your area I would check there to find recommended body shops. A lot of shops these days just do collision repair and won't even touch any "aftermarket" work. Others specialize in aftermarket work.
A shop that's never done a JDM front conversion is most likely going to charge you a whole heck of a lot more than a shop that has done it a time or two. When I was looking at doing mine I got all kinds of crazy numbers thrown out from 900-2500, granted that was in 02' but still.
Good luck
depends on which one you get. the chrome sir-g housings are the least expensive and probably what you found for $800, the non hid type R often going 1000-1200 and the HID 1200+
Got mine from Unlimited JDM. It was about $1900 shipped for non-hid type r conversion. Have no complaints with them everything came good to go. And yes you can always go back to USDM but you do have to notch out a peice of the frame for the headlights to go in but that wouldnt ever ristrict you to convert it back over to USDM. But why would you do that????
