Swaps whats your opinion?
hey honda tech. i just need a little advices. The good and the bad. why to do it and why not to do it.
so im looking to swap a b series motor into my crx i bought about a month ago. back in 2003 or earlier i had did a swap with a jdm b16. the swap went well the car ran strong. until some thieves stole my car. so i end up sayin f imports. since then i havent look into swaps or though about it. now its 2009 still have the love for CRX's. im thinking about either swapping a B16 or a GSR motor. whats the good the bad and ugly of a GSR motor swap into a CRX? any advice is appreciated. thankx/

Do what Bisi did in his CRX. He swapped a F22A1 engine into the crx and he designed the Bisimoto H2D kit for this build. This kit allowed the engine to fit snug into the engine bay; and the hood was not elevated so no theft would know that you had a swap unless they looked under the hood. The F22A1 is an excellent engine to tune because of its displacement and head design. Its intake and exhaust ports are large which will allows for easier air flow and exhaust scavenging. These engines are also relatively inexpensive to tune and modify in comparison to their B-series brethren, which is an economic benefit.
what im looking for is something that has more power then b16a. my budget is to get what ever part i need to get to make it happen. so no budget. as long as i know i need that part for it to run then thats what ill have to do. i preferred b series not looking to go H or F or K.
GSR motor VS B16A? does the Gsr have to much torque? where i want be able to lunach properly?
after the swap it will be a daily driver.

I would say build a b20vtec. you wont look back if you do it properly. You can easily make over 200whp and 150tq. It will blow any b16 and gs-r out of the water. and it will be new and you won't be left guessing what the actual mileage of the engine is.
since your in cali, will this be a normally driven car? if so i suggest the following: swap in an LS, reff it so there are no worries with the police then swap the motor for an LS/V, B20/V, B18C1, B18C or B18C5.
once your reff'ed if you decide to stay with the 1.8L family then you will have no worries at all.

Y not make a poor mans Type R and put a B16 head on top of a GSR block and call it a day nice power for alot cheaper than a Type R just like 10 or 15 horse less than a Type R
I say D series all the way. They are in EVERY junkyard, a lot of info on them too. I got a D16Y8 for 100 and it came pretty much a bare engine missing a lot of stuff. a few junkyard trips, some ebay buys and its getting closer to being done. People can build a fast D series turbo or n/a for around the price of just buying like a B series FULL swap from HMO and such. just my $.02 worth though.
Considering how cheap building a d-series turbo is these days, I agree with the boosted d idea. Vitara pistons and some FJR rods are like $425 new with rings and will handle 400+ WHP. Oh and the 75lbs of weight savings over a B is nice too.
