bad rotors/brakes? need help
the brakes dont go all the way to the floor but go deep and i took the tire off to get a look of the pads, they look decent. but it sounds like metal rubbing metal on teh front right wheel... sounds horrible! what could it be? also when i took off the wheel i looked to see if the heat/dirt sheild was full or had rocks in it and it didnt. and there was a groove maybe like 1cm lip on the very top of the caliper ( i was told that thats how much of the rotor was rubbed off from friction ) but i need help fixing this... it sounds soo bad
any help? it came out of no where no squilling brakes or rubbing before... now its like metal on medal and when i use the brakes it sounds worse. almost like a deep grinding metal on metal
Your pads may be worn down to the point that the "wear indicator" which is a metal tab attached to brake pads is rubbing against your rotor, indicating that you need pads because they are getting to be dangerously thin. pull the pads out and inspect them.
Sounds like you have a bolt missing or some ****, get in there and find out what's wrong before you end up having to replace way more than a set of pads and rotors.
i got in there and it was my first time ever doing anything brake wise. i took off the wheel and caliper and (didnt know the pads just sat in there) and took off the rear side pad and it was completly gone, i went and got new pads and put them on but then i couldnt get the caliper back on. i squeezed the circle thing of the caliper all the way in but the bolt area of the caliper (top one) wouldnt clear the blot in area with the THICK pads on there so i just put the rear one on cause the front side pad still had lots of pad left, im gonna wait for a even wear and change the front one once the rear side gets worn down a little. cause it just woulnd fit. but deffinatly a good learning experience took almost 2 hours to change one set of breaks that eventualy lead to just one pad being changed... lolz... any help on clearing the top bolt area would be nice for future refrence
for the rear calipers you need to screw the piston in, look at it and you will see an X on the top of the piston use these slots to screw it in. i use a small scrap of sheet metal for that, you just need something wide.

Yup, rear caliper piston screws in. I just use a skinny screwdriver. One skinny enough to slip into the slots on the piston and just turn it that way. So instead of using the tip of the screwdriver like you usually would, I lay the entire screwdriver shift across the piston and wind it that way.
