motor swap?

Default motor swap?

maybe dumb question but i have a 96 civic ex i think w/o v-tech it doesnt say it on valve cover. its a d16y8. motor is bad, i just need car for commuting pruposes. but i also have a 94 d15b7 motor that is good. can i swap them out without any trouble? thanks for the help.

I'm pretty sure the y8 is v-tech. I know mine is.

There should be a little solenoid on the left rear of the head next to the distributor.

The Y8 is V-TEC, and you could swap in the B7 in there, but have to swap the oil pump, and the injectors, and distributor. Obd2 motors, use a crank position sensor that is on the oil pump, that the obd1 motors don't use.

almost all ex have vtec. the solnoid is next to the dist. front side and some rear infront the int. mani. why do you want to swap out motors?

cause the y8 in it is bad, can hear a valve hit the piston.i dnt wanna put money into this vehicle. and i have a b7 layin around so i figured just use that. so can anyone tell me what to do about the extra sensors?

all y8s are vtec.

the problem with d15 is its obd1 and the car isnt... so youll need to switch everything over from the y8 and possibly do some wireing. im not 100%, but it should go in just fine, with out trobule no way, its not possible....
try and find a good y8 long block and switch it out.
