Picked up the GSR, thinking of painting it.
Hey, so I got my hands on a clean 95 GSR painted Paradise Blue-Green pearl, it's original paint. I really wanted one in black but the price and condition of this car was too good to pass up. So I've been thinking about just painting the car. The paint original paint is still pretty much near mint for a car made in 95, I'm just not a big fan of it, but I do think it's a unique color for a teg.
I have a few concerns though, I'm completely new this whole thing. Will painting over the original paint lower the value/authenticity of the car? I would love to have the car painted the same black that the integras comes in. I saw 1 integra repainted black and up close I did not like the thick look it had, I'm not sure how much the guy paid and maybe that's why it looked like that but what I'm asking here is can I have the car repainted so it looks like it's the original paint? (under the hood (engine bay) as well and inside the the door panel) Also when they do that (if they can do that) is it safe that they are (I'm assuming that's what they will have to do) gutting my car and properly putting it back together.
How much does this usually cost?
The previous owner removed the rubber that runs along the sides of the car, can I replaced those and how much would that be?
I was inspired by this guy's teg who posted some pics on clubrsx and was wondering if that is the original integra black?

Thanks

I did some more research and I'm thinking it's not worth painting. It's gonna be expensive and I heard it causes problems with the VIN number because it will show it as the original color which won't match the new color.
What do you guy's think?
Also I heard it's extra expensive and a pain to paint whatever is not the exterior of the car.

The blue-green color you have is one of my favorites. Personally, I'd leave it like that.
Fully painting a car (engine bay, door jambs, truck, etc) will cost damn near a fortune. To have the car fully stripped to every last bolt, and professionally painted, it's going to cost you thousands. Easily $2000 all the way to $5000 depending on if any body work needs to be done. Some painters won't even touch a job like that for under $3000, and that would be cheap.

the paint will only be as good as the prep work you . i suggest remove as much as possible windows moldings panels etc.the cheaper places will not remove moldings and stuff just tape it off and thats why they looks bad

So pretty much what I'll be paying for is the cost of the paint and a little bit of labor.
I just recently painted my whole teg grandprix pearl white. they removed all my dents and the rust on my quarterpanel for $3.6. It is true that if you paint your car a different color, it won't match up the VIN or the carfax. You should talk to that guy who owns the body shop with the hook up. Good places remove take out parts of your car to spray it rather than taping it up and spraying although it will cost more but definitely worth it
Black cars look soo sick when there clean but as soon as there dirty they can be the ugliest cars so if you plan on washing it all the time or garaging it I wouldnt paint it black. Ive owned 2 black cars and I probably wont go back.
Well personally if the car has original paint i would respray it with the same color but if you want to paint it a different color then i suggest you paint door jam, engine bay and interior the same color.
Looks way better when all the paint are matched up.

depends on the paint you use for cost. if you use ppg there are two major price points. you have omni, the econo paint which costs around $40-60 a quart and dbc/dbu which is two to three times that. the dbc/dbu paints have better pigment and a more rich color. not a big deal in silver but you can really see it in reds. clear coat, well, a basic high solid clear runs $80/gal, hardner is something like 50/qt and most mix 4/1, higher end clears like ppg or dupont are $200 a gal-ish. primers aren't always needed unless you're doing a color change, go to bare metal or need the base for your color coat to turn out correctly. i reshot my teg last year in the garage for a total of $350 and two days of bodywork. if you stay the same color you can wetsand the car and just address specific problem areas. a rattle can of primer filler is about all you need over body filler. make sure you do use either sealer or filler over filler. if you don't it's REAL easy to get fisheye or paint lifting. the hardest part about painting a car is getting it all even when you shoot. which of course is why lighting is SO important
